Is Kareem Hunt Still a Free Agent? Top Landing Spots for Hunt in 2024

Kareem Hunt - Fantasy Football Rankings

Running back Kareem Hunt was still a free agent when the 2023 season began. Hunt was waiting for the right situation to open up, and that eventually happened when Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb tore his ACL in Week 2.

Hunt then signed a one-year deal with the Browns and saw a ton of opportunities on offense. After the season, the veteran entered free agency for the second time in two years.

So, is Hunt still a free agent? Where could he land for the 2024 campaign? Let's dive in.

Is Kareem Hunt a Free Agent?

For the past two offseasons, not many teams have shown a lot of interest in Hunt. He went all last offseason without a team signing him, and the 28-year-old could go unsigned again in 2024. As of June 27, Hunt is still a free agent and doesn't appear to be on any team's radar before training camp begins.

In 2023, Hunt was inefficient on the ground and averaged a career-low 3.04 yards per carry. Despite totaling a career-high nine rushing touchdowns, he only rushed for 411 yards while catching 15 passes for 84 yards. The seven-year veteran also underwent sports hernia surgery at the end of last season.

It appears Hunt is headed for another long offseason. He likely won't get signed anytime soon and will probably only get an opportunity if an injury to a starting running back happens in training camp. But let's look at potential landing spots for the 28-year-old if a team were to sign him right now.

Which Teams Would be Good Fits for Hunt?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

If there is any team that could use a veteran running back in 2024, it's the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rachaad White struggled on the ground last year, and his backup entering training camp is expected to be 2024 fourth-round pick Bucky Irving or Chase Edmonds. Hunt would be a much better upgrade as Tampa Bay's RB2 over Irving or Edmonds.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are another team that could be in the market for a backup running back before the season begins. James Cook will lead the backfield again in 2024, but a fourth-round rookie in Ray Davis is expected to be his backup. For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, Hunt would make a ton of sense for this Buffalo backfield.

New York Giants

The New York Giants could certainly use another running back on their roster after losing Saquon Barkley in free agency. The team only added Devin Singletary this offseason, so it could use a veteran back on offense. With Eric Gray also lined up to be the team's RB2, Hunt would immediately win that RB2 job with the potential to split touches with Singletary.
