2024 MLB Power Rankings: Week 14

Jose Ramirez - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Week 14 brings some shake-ups throughout the rankings! I was just reading another article about teams' records and performance tend to stabilize around this time of the season, but we have such a glut of teams stuck in the middle that I think it might take a bit longer this season to sort through that group and figure out just which teams stand a chance at the postseason!

Remember, when I do my rankings, I factor in past performance, the current level of performance, overall talent, injuries, and schedules -- as many factors as possible.

Keep reading to find out where your favorite team ranks and which teams moved up and down the rankings the most this week. Let's get into it already. Here are my Week 14 MLB Power Rankings!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and weekly lineup resources:

The Worst Team Ever?

30. Chicago White Sox (22-61)

Last Week's Ranking (30)

Yes, the White Sox get their own tier right now as they are on pace for a historically bad season. They need to double their win total in order to finish ahead of the 2003 Tigers who won only 43 games. And I think it's going to be close!

Bottom Dwellers

29. Colorado Rockies (27-53)

Last Week's Ranking (28)

28. Miami Marlins (29-52)

Last Week's Ranking (29)

27. Oakland Athletics (29-54)

Last Week's Ranking (27)

The Rockies fall to the 29th spot as they are mired in a 2-8 slump over their last ten games. Miami and Oakland both have 29 wins, but Miami has been slightly better of late and has a glimmer of hope as Edward Cabrera could return to their rotation soon and Max Meyer is still waiting in the wings at Triple-A.

At Least We're Not Those Guys

26. Los Angeles Angels (34-46)

Last Week's Ranking (26)

I am going to break things up into more tiers this week and attempt to sort through the mass of teams in the middle of the standings that are separated by only a few games. The Angels have been playing better baseball of late and have won four straight, so they deserve a promotion out of the gutter and into the next tier.

Davis Daniel was a bright spot last night, whiffing eight in eight shutout innings.

25. Toronto Blue Jays (37-43)

Last Week's Ranking (24)

The Blue Jays offense is slowly waking up, but their pitching is also disintegrating at the same time. George Springer came out of nowhere for two home runs last night and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has looked himself now for about a month. Who knows if Toronto has enough in the tank to make a run, but it seems like they are still in pretty big trouble and playing in a loaded division is going to make contending very tough.

24. Detroit Tigers (37-44)

Last Week's Ranking (20)

The Tigers are dropping like a stone in the standings and it's hard to remember a time back in May when they were several games above .500. They had their second-best pitcher on the mound last night against the Angels and were shut out 5-0, that's how their season is going right now.

23. Texas Rangers (37-44)

Last Week's Ranking (19)

The Rangers have now dropped four in a row and yet another starting pitcher (Jon Gray) was battered around yesterday. Mad Max takes the hill tonight and will attempt to be the stopper, but this team has serious issues with starting pitching and I can't consider them a serious contender until we see them play at a higher level.

22. Washington Nationals (38-42)

Last Week's Ranking (25)

The Nationals have dropped three in a row. I'll give them this, they are usually competitive, though, and they have a pretty solid 1-2-3 at the top of the lineup in C.J. Abrams, Lane Thomas, and Jesse Winker. There is just a major dropoff in talent after that and some pretty spotty pitching. Josiah Gray is set to return soon, which could really help them out but this team is clearly rebuilding and not too concerned about winning (otherwise James Wood would be up from Triple-A by now!)

So You're Telling Me There's A Chance?

21. Chicago Cubs (38-44)

Last Week's Ranking (15)

20. Cincinnati Reds (38-43)

Last Week's Ranking (14)

So this is the new tier of teams that don't suck and could still make a run at the postseason if things break right. Let's cover the Cubs and Reds together here as they are separated by just a half-game in the standings.

Both teams should be ahead of the Pirates and Cardinals, but are not and have failed to take advantage of opportunities to move up in the standings recently. I think the Reds are the more talented team, but they can't seem to get out of their own way. The good news is they got Noelvi Marte back this week, but they also lost Christian Encarnion-Strand for the season and saw their ace Nick Lodolo head back to the IL.

Both teams could stand to make a move or two before the deadline because I don't think either team as currently constructed has enough firepower to get to the postseason.

19. San Francisco Giants (39-43)

Last Week's Ranking (23)

The Giants are scrappy, as always, and refuse to go away. They do have some reinforcements coming soon with Kyle Harrison set to return to the rotation and both Alex Cobb and Robbie Ray rehabbing in the minors. If Blake Snell ever gets healthy and returns to form, that would be a very formidable rotation.

18. Pittsburgh Pirates (39-41)

Last Week's Ranking (21)

Pirates fans are clamoring for the front office to make a trade for a bat and a bullpen arm since the big three in their rotation have been darn good over the last month and a half. Will they? Who knows, but I am not holding my breath.

17. Tampa Bay Rays (40-41)

Last Week's Ranking (17)

The Rays are still flirting with .500 and 7-3 over their last ten games despite their awful -56 run differential. I am not bullish on them this year, but they continue to defy the odds and hang around.

16. St. Louis Cardinals (41-39)

Last Week's Ranking (16)

Like the Rays, the Cardinals really shouldn't be here in the standings with a -38 run differential. But this team refuses to lose for long and they have just enough hitting to be competitive on a nightly basis. I still have them on the outside looking in, but it's St. Louis and they have a certain mojo that other franchises do not.

So...Are They Good?

15. New York Mets (39-39)

Last Week's Ranking (22)

The Mets have done the unthinkable and reeled off eight wins over their last ten games. Their offense has led the way bolstered by a red-hot Francisco Lindor. They are playing their best baseball of the season, just in time to convince management not to sell assets at the deadline (which they probably should do anyway).

14. Arizona Diamondbacks (39-42)

Last Week's Ranking (13)

The Diamondbacks need Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly back in a bad way. Jordan Montgomery got destroyed yet again in his last start and Eduardo Rodriguez has yet to throw a pitch for the Snakes. The offense is pretty solid, but they are stuck in neutral without their top two pitchers.

13. Houston Astros (40-40)

Last Week's Ranking (18)

The only team hotter than the Mets right now is the 'Stros, who have won seven straight and are finally at the .500 mark. I had a feeling it was going to happen sooner or later, and sure enough - here we go. Houston is bludgeoning teams to death with their elite offense and getting just enough pitching to make it work. Hunter Brown has been amazing over the last two months and is making me look smart for endorsing his breakout before the season.

12. San Diego Padres (44-41)

Last Week's Ranking (12)

The Pads' MVP so far should really be Jurickson Profar, who is having the best start to a season of his career. The bad news is that Fernando Tatis Jr. is now hurt and could miss months, not weeks. If that happens, it might just bury this team's hopes of a postseason berth.

Contenders, Maybe?

11. Boston Red Sox (43-37)

Last Week's Ranking (11)

And so the Red Sox move back up a tier this week because I simply can't deny how well they are playing. They have won eight of their last ten and are finally firing on all (or most) of their cylinders right now. This team could still get Triston Casas back in the lineup yet, which would make them a very dangerous unit.

10. Minnesota Twins (45-36)

Last Week's Ranking (10)

The Twins are holding steady and starting to round into form at the right time. They still have a ways to go yet to catch the streaking Guardians, but Minnesota is finally getting their offense and pitching to click at the same time.

9. Atlanta Braves (44-35)

Last Week's Ranking (9)

You have to feel for Chris Sale, who struck out 11 hitters yesterday against his old Chicago team and still lost as the Braves were unable to score a single run against the worst team in baseball. Just when you think Atlanta is showing signs of bouncing back, they lose a game like that. This team is still good, but definitely not as formidable as they have been in prior seasons.

8. Kansas City Royals (45-38

Last Week's Ranking (8)

I'm glad I have a Cole Ragans Cy Young ticket because something tells me he could go on another big run in the second half. He's been superb so far this season and is leading a pitching staff that continues to overperform. The Royals feel like a lock for at least a Wild Card as long as they can stay healthy.

7. Milwaukee Brewers (48-31)

Last Week's Ranking (7)

Milwaukee has won four straight, including a game started by Dallas Keuchel, who hasn't been good this decade. Somehow the Brewers are getting the most out of every single player right now and overachieving in a big way. Even if they have some natural regression, they've built such a commanding lead in the NL Central that it would take a huge run by one of the other four teams to knock them off at this point.

6. Seattle Mariners (46-37)

Last Week's Ranking (6)

Seattle stands firm here at #6 and I continue to believe in them as they have enough pitching to patch over the other holes on this roster.

Contenders, For Sure

5. Los Angeles Dodgers (51-31)

Last Week's Ranking (4)

The Dodgers won four in a row and dropped one spot? Honestly, ranking the top five every week is a challenge and L.A. could easily be as high as No. 2 right now. We know that when October rolls around, this team will be there and has the depth in both hitting and pitching to make a run at a title.

4. New York Yankees (52-31)

Last Week's Ranking (1)

The Yanks have dropped four straight and more concerning than that was Gerrit Cole throwing 90 mph fastballs for batting practice against the Mets. Let's see if he can get his velocity back up in his next start, but that's worrisome for sure.

3. Cleveland Guardians (51-28)

Last Week's Ranking (5)

As someone who grew up only 90 minutes from Cleveland, I can tell you that it is a fantastic sports town. They love their Browns, Cavs, and Guardians and I remember the days when they sold out like five years of home games straight at Jacobs Field.

This Cleveland team feels special and while they probably aren't as talented as any of the other top-five teams in the rankings, they just continue to play excellent baseball. Emmanuel Clase deserves some recognition as he has been, once again, the best closer in baseball.

2. Baltimore Orioles (51-30)

Last Week's Ranking (2)

The Orioles were on top of the world after taking a series from the Yankees last week, but they proceeded to get swept by Houston and drop two of three to Cleveland. I still believe this is the best team in the AL and again, their depth extends into Triple-A where they have multiple trade assets to deploy in order to improve their roster before the deadline.

1. Philadelphia Phillies (53-28)

Last Week's Ranking (3)

The Phillies are back on top with the best record in baseball! They have a +119 run differential which is tied for second with Baltimore just one run behind the Dodgers. This team is built for a deep post-season run, so Phillies fans start preparing for an NCLS date with the Dodgers!

I'll see you next week for my newest batch of rankings -- feel free to let me know what I got right and wrong!
