Andy discusses Houston Astros outfield prospect Joey Loperfido and if he is worth stashing in redraft leagues in 2024.
The Houston Astros recalled outfield prospect Joey Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land on June 21.
Loperfido has bounced between Triple-A and the majors throughout the early part of the 2024 campaign and has been unable to find consistent playing time.
However, this recent promotion may signal that Houston is ready to give one of their top young bats an extended look in the major leagues, which could make him worth adding in all redraft formats.
How High Is Joey Loperfido's Fantasy Potential?
The Duke product has showcased elite power at Triple-A this season with an eye-catching 15 long balls in just 39 games. He held an overall .272/.365/.568 slash line which was on pace to smash his previous career high he held at Double-A last summer.

In addition to his high-upside power, he also swiped nine bags which makes him a potential five-category contributor.
Although, he did hold a poor 21:53 BB:K ratio this season and a 47:81 BB:K ratio last summer which does lower his value in points leagues.
When Might Joey Loperfido Get A Major-League Opportunity?
When Loperfido first made his major league debut earlier this season, he spent the majority of time riding pine which frustrated several fantasy managers who decided to pick him up.

However, this major league stint may be different. The Astros cut ties with first baseman Jose Abreu on June 14 which left just Jon Singleton as the only primary first baseman on the depth chart. Singleton has posted a poor .222/.321/.329 line in 55 games this season and has begun to lose playing time.
While Loperfido spends the majority of his time in center field, he has logged 11 games at first base in the minors this season and 19 last summer. The timing of Loperfido's recent promotion suggests that the 25-year-old could play his way into an everyday role as the primary first baseman in the Space City. He has already started in three consecutive games this week (all in the outfield) but knowing that the Astros have had trouble finding a consistent option at first base, Loperfido could become the clear front-runner for that role.
He is worth stashing in all standard leagues as he could provide high-upside power and have prime RBI opportunities batting in the middle of the Houston lineup daily.
