BALLER MOVE: Stash in Deeper Leagues
CALL-UP ETA: August
ANALYSIS: Junior Caminero is the third-ranked prospect in all of baseball right now, although No.2 Paul Skenes will graduate soon. Caminero belted 31 minor league home runs in 2023 across two levels of the minor leagues, and after a brief debut with the Rays last season, there was a lot of anticipation and excitement for his 2024 debut. That excitement faded somewhat as Caminero was producing but not getting the call earlier in the season. That excitement faded further once he suffered a quad strain in late May that was expected to sideline him for 4-6 weeks.
Well, now we're a few weeks in and since there hasn't been any news, it looks like his recovery will be on the longer end of that timeline. Still, with a possible return in mid-July in the cards, managers looking for some late-season help should consider stashing Caminero. Eric Cross' latest Prospect Stash article points to August as when we can expect him in Tampa, which is a long time to let a player take up valuable roster space in shallow leagues (which is why it is not recommended at this point).

For managers willing to stash the young Dominican, he promises to bring power when he finally gets a chance. He had eight home runs this season before the injury, which was a 27 HR pace had he received 510 plate appearances like he did in 2023. Those managers willing to use a roster spot could be getting elite power just in time for the fantasy baseball playoffs. He's currently rostered in just 28% of leagues, but that number will surely creep higher the closer we get to his return. Grab him now while you can, if you can.
