Vancouver Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek has signed an eight-year, $58 million extension with the team. He was set to become a restricted free agent before agreeing to a new deal. Hronek, a former second-round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings, had his first full season with the Canucks in 2023-24, becoming a key cog in defense, playing next to Quinn Hughes. He set several career highs during a 48-point campaign, and the 26-year-old finished just outside the top 10 in the league with a plus-33 rating across 81 games. Hronek, who will carry a $7.25 million cap hit with the extension, has totaled 205 points (35 goals, 170 assists) in 390 career games with 378 blocks and 514 hits. He has formed a well-working partnership with Hughes, and the two should offer a lot of fantasy value to managers again in the next campaign.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
