Mookie Betts was struck by a pitch from right-hander Dan Altavilla during the seventh inning of the Los Angeles Dodgers' game against the Kansas City Royals. The Dodgers star has reportedly fractured his left hand and will miss significant time.
This is a huge blow for the Dodgers, who also lost Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the same game. The Japanese pitcher was diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain and, like Betts, will be out for a lengthy period.
How serious is Betts' injury? Will he play again this season? Let's look at the latest injury update and the fantasy outlook of the 31-year-old shortstop.

Mookie Betts Injury Update for Fantasy Baseball
As per reports, Mookie Betts will be out for an indefinite period of time. However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that the player's injury is not season-ending and will not require surgery.
On Monday, Betts will reportedly visit orthopedic surgeon Dr. Steven Shin to determine his course of treatment. Betts is unlikely to make a quick return, and the Dodgers wouldn't want to rush him back from this injury either.
#Dodgers SS Mookie Betts suffered a fracture of a bone in his left wrist and will be out “for some time,” MGR Dave Roberts said. Won’t need surgery, though.

The Dodgers are currently 44-29 and are eight games ahead of the second-placed San Diego Padres in their division. They will need their superstar shortstop healthy for the playoffs, and until then, the club will rely on the likes of Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani to keep them afloat.
Mookie Betts Fantasy Baseball Outlook
Mookie Betts was the favorite to win the National League MVP before his injury. In 72 games this season, he had a batting average of.304 with 86 hits, 10 home runs, 40 RBIs, and 50 runs scored.
It will be very unlikely that Betts will be able to play again before August, which is bad news for fantasy players who had him on their team. Fortunately for the Dodgers, the seven-time all-star will be available to play in the postseason.

Betts struggled massively in the playoffs last year. He failed to register a single hit in 11 at-bats during the National League Division Series, in which the Dodgers were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hopefully, this time around, he will be able to make an impact for his team.
