NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 6/18/24

The Stanley Cup Finals are not disappointing, with big swings for both Edmonton and Florida. With the Nightmare Bear a constant threat now, can Edmonton fend him off and finally break their curse? Can Florida finally clinch their first Stanley Cup? During the playoffs, it is much more common to find low-scoring and heavy-hitting games. SCRATCH THAT! This year we have seen plenty of back-and-forth blowouts and teams getting swept! I will do my best to guide you through this showdown slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers: Panthers Lead Series 3-1

DraftKings and FanDuel Captain - NHL DFS Picks

Warren Foegele - DK $6.6K || FD $7.5K

Opponent - Florida Panthers

The most popular ‘CAPTAIN’ choices for NHL DraftKings always revolve around either a goalie or the ‘stars’ of the teams. However, for Game 5, winger Warren Foegele will be a popular value play due to his new role for the Edmonton Oilers. The veteran has been moved up to the top line with Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman, and in two games since, Foegele has one goal, one assist, six shots, and one blocked shot. Typically used in a ‘grinder’ role, Foegele may not see as many blocked shots while playing with McDavid; however, his increase in shots will make up for it, as well as an expected increase in points. Playing Foegele at ‘CAPTAIN’ will provide enough salary relief to afford multiple stars in builds.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • McDavid (DK $17.1K || FD $16K)
  • Verhaeghe (DK $12.9K || FD $11.5K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Flex Players - NHL DFS Picks

Leon Draisaitl - DK $9.4K || FD $14.5K

Opponent - Florida Panthers

Leon Draisaitl is one of the major reasons for Edmonton’s big fall in the Stanley Cup Finals, with the veteran center producing just three points – three assists – through four games. In his last five appearances, he has three assists, 12 shots, and two blocked shots. Furthermore, his three assists all came in Edmonton’s massive Game 4, 8-1 win over Florida. With Evander Kane out, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or RNH – down below – has been moved to Draisaitl’s line in an effort to boost the latter’s production. Due to RNH being a pass-first winger, Draisaitl is expected to see an increase in both shots and goals with the move.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - DK $7.6K || FD $10.5K

Opponent - Florida Panthers

As mentioned above, RNH has been demoted or moved to the second line in an effort to spark Draisaitl’s production. Some may see this as a negative for RNH, however, Draisaitl is as capable of producing as his teammate McDavid is. Furthermore, RNH will still see ice-time with McDavid during the power-play. As long as the winger stays within the top six, his point production is not expected to drop. However, as long as he is playing with Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins’s shot volume will drop.

Sam Bennett - DK $7.4K || FD $9.5K

Opponent - Edmonton Oilers

Sam Bennett has been a consistent player in the playoffs this year for Florida and a key player in the Stanley Cup Finals against Edmonton. In his last five games, he has two goals, two assists, 12 shots, and three blocked shots. Furthermore, out of four games in the Finals, the only game Bennett did not produce a point was in the 8-1 loss to Edmonton. With Edmonton being down a few players, leaving the bottom six less physical, Bennett and the physical second line could do damage in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Barkov (DK $8.2K || FD $13.5K)
  • Rodrigues (DK $5.6K || FD $9K)
