The Kansas City Royals are one of the best surprises of the 2024 season.
Led by a solid rotation of pitchers, a quality bullpen, and an underrated lineup - the Royals are in the mix for the AL Central crown and a playoff spot come this fall.
KC's offense has been better than expected, with MVP candidate Bobby Witt Jr. leading the way. But they've had positive contributions from lesser-known players in their lineup - one of those hitters is second baseman Michael Massey.

Michael Massey Injury Update for Fantasy Baseball
Injuries have limited Massey to only 29 games for KC this season, but he's been very productive while in the lineup. The left-hander has six home runs, 17 runs scored, and 23 RBI while hitting .293.
He's been on the IL since May 24th with a sprained lower back ligament. He's been eligible to return for almost a week now, but he's just beginning his rehab with some on-field activities.

He is out "indefinitely," and back injuries can be tricky as they often reoccur in players, so the Royals are likely to be cautious with Massey and bring him along slowly.
Michael Massey Fantasy Baseball Outlook
While Massey was trending up right before getting hurt and was a popular waiver addition, there's really not much reason to hold onto him without an official timeline for his return in anything but the deepest of formats.
Back injuries can be nagging, and Massey already missed the first three weeks of the season due to back problems before re-injuring himself in May.
We aren't likely to see Massey back on the field before July, so leave him on waivers for now. And if he comes back strong, be prepared to add him if you still need middle infield help then.
