Chase Elliott Scores Strong Finish of Fourth At Sonoma
6 months agoChase Elliott continues to be one of the most competitive drivers at road courses as he placed fourth in this week's Toyota / Save Mart 350. As Elliott started from fourth, he kept up with the rest of the top-5 during stage one and obtained stage points. During the second stage, Elliott maintained a position in the Top 5 until lap 51, when he made his first pit stop. This pit stop prevented Elliott from gaining stage points in stage two as he got shuffled back to 31st. In the final stage, Elliott stayed out of the pits, stretched his fuel, and led three laps until his final pit stop on lap 84. The No. 9 Chevrolet driver would use fresher tires and better handling to move through the field and collect his fourth-consecutive top-10 finish at Sonoma by the end. The fourth-place result would be Elliott's fourth top-10 finish in the last six races and increased his season-wide average finish to 9.5. As the NASCAR Cup Series will visit Iowa for the first time, Elliott has prior experience at the site in the Xfinity Series, where he has four top-10 finishes in four starts.
