We have some really interesting matchups today. The pitching mix offers a deep selection of reliable aces and worthwhile midrange starters, which will certainly lead to some interesting lineup decisions. I'll point out the standout plays, but there will be plenty of opportunity to get creative with your picks today.
This article will provide my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 6/9/2024 and the slate locking at 1:05 p.m. EDT. DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Tarik Skubal vs. Milwaukee Brewers ($10.5K DK, $10.6K FD)
Today's slate features no shortage of top-end pitching, but among the group, Tarik Skubal stands out as the preferred option if you can afford the steep price. Through 12 starts, he carries an outstanding 2.45 xERA and a 2.63 xFIP. Skubal's success includes some truly elite underlying numbers, such as a .205 xBA, 30.8% hard-hit rate, and an 87.1 MPH average exit velocity. Limiting damage is only part of his fantasy appeal; the remainder is underscored by a tremendous 30.5% strikeout rate. Skubal has generated at least six strikeouts in every outing this season and should be considered the greatest combination of floor and ceiling available today.
Skubal draws an unexpectedly opportunistic matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. They have been one of the league's stronger offenses overall, plating five runs per game in 2024, but have struggled considerably against left-handed pitchers. Milwaukee sports a below-average 95 wRC+ against southpaws this season, alongside a 23% strikeout rate. Skubal is well-positioned to succeed in this game.
Jared Jones vs. Minnesota Twins ($9.3K DK, $9.6K FD)
For a comparable ceiling with a bit of a discount, Jared Jones is a fantastic alternative. The rookie sports a strong 3.45 xERA and a 3.23 xFIP through his first 12 career starts. Jones has been vulnerable to power, as evidenced by the 10.4% barrel rate he has surrendered, but he offsets the increased risk with an outstanding 27.5% strikeout rate and a 32.7% whiff rate.
The Minnesota Twins are perfectly middling opponent for Jones today. They are plating 4.3 runs per game on the season, just slightly below average. That mark includes a 100 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers with a 23.6% strikeout rate. Don't be surprised if Jones approaches double-digit strikeouts in this matchup.
Also Consider: Shota Imanaga, Cole Ragans, Hurston Waldrep, Bailey Ober

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Jose Ramirez - 3B, CLE vs. Trevor Rogers ($6.5K DK, $4.1K FD)
Jose Ramirez might be the best hitter to spend up for today. He is slashing .272/.335/.553 with 18 home runs and a 147 wRC+. Ramirez has been particularly effective against left-handed pitchers, slugging .587 against southpaws with a .267 ISO and a 170 wRC+.

— MLB (@MLB) June 8, 2024
Trevor Rogers will be a preferred pitcher to stack against on this slate. Across 12 starts, he owns a horrible 5.19 xERA and a 4.32 xFIP. Rogers has been crushed by opposing hitters to the tune of a 47.2% hard-hit rate, 91.5 MPH average exit velocity, and a .462 xSLG.
Michael Busch - 1B, CHC vs. Frankie Montas ($4.3K DK, $2.7K FD)
Michael Busch has cooled off after his hot start, but he is the best Chicago Cubs hitter to one-off on this slate. Busch is slashing .246/.343/.447 so far in 2024 with eight home runs and a 123 wRC+. The success includes some impressive power metrics, such as a .467 xSLG and a 13.8% barrel rate.
Frankie Montas isn't the worst pitcher on this slate, but he is middling at best. The 31-year-old carries a weak 4.31 xERA and a 4.59 xFIP over 11 appearances in 2024. Left-handed hitters have been particularly problematic for Montas, slugging .468 against him this season, part of a .448 career mark.
Masyn Winn - SS, STL vs. Ty Blach ($3.7K DK, $3.1K FD)
Masyn Winn is an excellent value play today. The 22-year-old is slashing .303/.354/.436 on the season with a 130 wRC+. While Winn doesn't possess an exceptional power stroke, he has posted a .236 ISO against southpaws this season. He additionally brings an outstanding .288 xBA against all pitchers into play today and has worthwhile stolen base upside when he gets on base.
Ty Blach might be the worst pitcher on this slate. He sports a 5.16 xERA and a 4.24 xFIP across nine appearances. Those struggles include an awful .488 xSLG, alongside similarly terrible numbers, like a .305 xBA, 13% whiff rate, and an 11.4% strikeout rate. Right-handed hitters are slugging .530 against Blach this season, part of a .490 career mark.

Luis Robert Jr. - OF, CWS vs. Chase Anderson ($5.3K DK, $3.4K FD)
Injuries have limited Luis Robert Jr. to only 11 games played in 2024. Still, the power threat remains constant. Robert launched 38 home runs last season, and his batted-ball metrics this year suggest he has not really missed a step. Those numbers include a .581 xSLG, 24% barrel rate, 56% hard-hit rate, and a 91.8 MPH average exit velocity. Robert is undoubtedly the biggest threat in the Chicago White Sox lineup.
LUIS ROBERT JR. IS SO BACK 🤯
— Sox On 35th (@SoxOn35th) June 5, 2024
It is somewhat surprising that Chase Anderson is still pitching in the majors in 2024. Over 31 2/3 innings pitched, he carries a 4.58 xERA and a 5.48 xFIP. The 36-year-old has not generated an ERA lower than 5.42 since 2019 and shows no signs of turning things around. Right-handed hitters have been particularly effective against him, slugging .492 against Anderson in his career.
Tyler O'Neill - OF, BOS vs. Chris Flexen ($5K DK, $3K FD)
Although O'Neill has cooled off recently, 2024 has represented a significant resurgence for him. Across 44 games, he sports a .854 OPS with 11 home runs and a 133 wRC+. O'Neill strikes out plenty, but his batted-ball metrics are fantastic when the ball is put in play. He has generated a .499 xSLG, 17.7% barrel rate, 47.9% hard-hit rate, and a 92 MPH average exit velocity.
Chris Flexen is another arm worth attacking today. The 29-year-old owns a weak 4.64 xERA and a 4.70 xFIP through 13 outings this season. The struggles include surrendering a .459 xSLG and an 8.7% barrel rate. Lefties have gotten the better of Flexen in 2024, but he is historically a reverse splits pitcher, allowing a .503 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters in his career.
Adam Duvall - OF, ATL vs. DJ Herz ($3.7K DK, $2.7K FD)
The results haven't been there yet for Adam Duvall, who is sporting an underwhelming .635 OPS so far in 2024. Still, we shouldn't be so quick to write off the 35-year-old. He slugged .531 with 21 home runs over 92 games last season, and his advanced numbers suggest he still has plenty of power-hitting left in the tank. Duvall is squaring up the ball, producing a .461 xSLG and a 12.5% barrel rate.
DJ Herz is fresh off his mediocre major league debut, surrendering four earned runs over four innings against the New York Mets. Herz is not an especially heralded prospect, and his 5.72 xFIP over 36 innings in Triple-A this season doesn't position him well for success today.
