Were you aware that four of the top ten overall fantasy players right now are infielders?
Bobby Witt Jr. is no surprise as he was the consensus #1 overall pick in drafts this Spring. But Gunnar Henderson and Elly De La Cruz were guys who analysts were divided on, yet both are off to top-ten (overall) starts and have been among the best fantasy infielders thus far.
With two and a half months of the season already behind us, let's examine which infielders who are off to great starts have the staying power needed to turn in a top-10 season by October.

Current Top 10 Infielders for Fantasy Baseball
Here are the top 10 most valuable outfielders in 5x5 roto leagues right now according to Yahoo's player rankings.
Hitter | R | HR | RBI | SB | AVG |
Bobby Witt Jr. | 56 | 11 | 47 | 19 | 0.323 |
Jose Ramirez | 47 | 17 | 60 | 9 | 0.273 |
Gunnar Henderson | 48 | 19 | 42 | 8 | 0.264 |
Elly De La Cruz | 41 | 11 | 29 | 33 | 0.237 |
Anthony Volpe | 47 | 6 | 25 | 12 | 0.286 |
Bryce Harper | 35 | 14 | 44 | 3 | 0.268 |
Ketel Marte | 41 | 13 | 35 | 1 | 0.282 |
Maikel Garcia | 41 | 5 | 36 | 14 | 0.261 |
Freddie Freeman | 38 | 8 | 38 | 3 | 0.291 |
Jordan Westburg | 32 | 10 | 38 | 6 | 0.28 |
Jose Ramirez is on pace for his best year since 2021 when he hit 36 home runs and drove in 103. There's a pretty big gap between Witt Jr. and J-Ram and the next tier of Henderson, EDC, and Harper.
Maikel Garcia and Jordan Westburg have been playing well above expectations and helping their teams to the top of the AL standings this season, but are candidates to drop out of the rankings by the end of the season. Westburg has slowed down quite a bit since a hot April and May, and Garcia's ranking is propped up by his steals.
Freddie Freeman is going to start hitting more home runs, it's going to happen and Bryce Harper has already started to turn the corner as he's been red-hot in June, too.
Projected Top 10 Infielders for Fantasy Baseball
Taking into account the rest of the season projections from ATC and others (plus my own opinion), here's how I see the final top ten infielder rankings shaking out by the end of this season.
- Bobby Witt Jr.
- Jose Ramirez
- Gunnar Henderson
- William Contreras
- Elly De La Cruz
- Bryce Harper
- Freddie Freeman
- Ketel Marte
- Anthony Volpe
- Josh Naylor
The top five remain unchanged other than I do think Contreras could jump ahead of Elly if the latter can't get his average up. Harper and Freeman I mentioned already as candidates for big second halves and Marte is super steady at second base.
Volpe benefits from hitting in front of two MVP candidates, but I see him sliding down the rankings as the season goes along. The tenth spot is certainly up for grabs, but I love what Josh Naylor is doing in Cleveland and if he can improve his average, I think he's on the cusp of a top-ten season himself.
