10 months agoNew York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere continued his terrific postseason campaign with another goal in Thursday's 3-2 loss to Florida. He finished the scoring in the contest, notching his eighth playoff goal of the year. Alex Kovalev is the only player aged 22 or younger in Rangers history to score more goals in a single postseason (9). With him having also recorded six assists, Lafreniere is tied for the third most points among Rangers players in these playoffs. He will look to score in a fourth consecutive game when the Rangers try to stave off elimination on Saturday night.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

5 months agoNew York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere has landed a seven-year, $52.15 million extension. The first pick of the 2020 draft will now be tied with the team through the 2031-32 season. His new contract will have a $7.45 million cap hit. Lafreniere got handsomely rewarded for a breakout campaign. After mostly struggling through his first few years in the league, he posted 28 goals and 57 points in 82 games last season. Lafreniere then went on to play a key role in the playoffs, amassing 14 points (eight goals) in 16 games. The 23-year-old has maintained the momentum in 2024-25, averaging a point per game through the first seven games, with four goals and three assists to his name.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

5 months agoNew York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere (upper body) will remain in the lineup on Tuesday against Montreal. His status for the game was in doubt after he sat out Monday's practice and was labeled as day-to-day. Lafreniere has opened the season with a five-game point streak, posting three goals and three assists with 12 shots. He will be in his usual spot on the second line on Tuesday while skating with the second power-play unit.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

6 months agoNew York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere (upper body) is considered day-to-day. He could miss his first game of the season on Tuesday versus Montreal after picking up an upper-body injury. Lafreniere has feasted next to the red-hot Artemi Panarin this season, logging six points (three goals, three assists) in five games. Matt Rempe practiced in Lafreniere's spot on the second line on Monday. Rempe has a completely different profile as a player and can't be expected to have the same impact as Lafreniere. Jonny Brodzinski will be Lafreniere's likely replacement on the second power-play unit if he can't play on Tuesday.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

10 months agoNew York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere ended a four-game point drought with a pair of goals in Sunday's 5-4 overtime victory against Florida. Lafreniere scored in each of the first two periods to help the Rangers grab a 4-2 lead ahead of the third frame. The 22-year-old reached six goals and 12 points for the postseason. Through 13 games, Lafreniere has averaged close to three shots per game, but he's lit the lamp in only four outings. Prior to Sunday's game, Lafreniere's lone goals had come during a three-game stretch early in the second round. It would be a big plus for the Rangers if the former first-overall pick could regularly help out on the offensive end.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
