11 months agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos is starting in center field and batting third on Tuesday in Pittsburgh against the Pirates and veteran left-hander Martin Perez. It's the first time this year that Matos has hit up near the top of the batting order, but he's deserved the move. The 22-year-old Venezuelan outfielder has hit .333 (10-for-30) with two home runs and 17 RBI in just eight games in his second year in the big leagues. Matos is unlikely to keep that high of a batting average through the rest of the season, but he's worth a pickup in fantasy leagues for outfield depth now that rookie Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) is out for the rest of the year. Matos made his big-league debut in 2023 and hit .250/.319/.342 with two homers, 14 RBI, three steals and 24 runs scored in 76 games. It's a good matchup against the soft-tossing Perez on Tuesday for Matos.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
