BALLER MOVE: Stash in Deeper Leagues (9% rostered)
CALL-UP ETA: 2024
ANALYSIS: Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Jordan Lawlar has missed the start of the season due to a right thumb injury. Lawlar ruptured a ligament in his thumb when trying to field a ground ball in a spring training minor league game in late March. That injury required the 21-year-old to undergo surgery, which would sideline him for eight to 10 weeks.

The week of May 20 will be the eight-week mark since Lawlar underwent successful surgery on his thumb but there have been no updates on if the young shortstop is close to baseball activities. Even if he is, though, he isn't worth an add in most formats, unless you are in a deeper league.
Lawlar was expected to start the season in Triple-A before his thumb injury anyways. So, it would make sense for the Diamondbacks to place him in the minors when his thumb is fully healed. MLB Pipeline's No. 9 prospect also struggled mightily in limited major league reps in 2023. He was just 4-for-31 at the plate last season across 14 games. With the 21-year-old still recovering from his thumb injury, it might be a couple of months until he is called up.
