Can We Trust Ross Chastain In DFS At Darlington Raceway This Weekend?
7 months agoOn Saturday afternoon, Ross Chastain qualified ninth for Sunday's Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway. In nine Cup starts at the track "Too Tough to Tame", Chastain has struggled. While he did finish fifth in the race here last fall, in his three prior starts he finished 29th (spring 2023), 20th (fall 2022), and 30th (fall 2022), crashing out in two of these contests. Because of these lackluster results, you may be tempted to dismiss the Watermelon Man this weekend in DFS, particularly considering his salary is $9,600 on DraftKings. While his inability to keep the Next Gen car on this track is cause for concern, fading Chastain would be a mistake. Over the last 14 races on tracks with banking over 20-degrees (superspeedways excluded), the No. 1 is averaging 45.49 DraftKings points, which trails just Denny Hamlin (52.55) and Kyle Larson (50.13), who are the two betting favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook for this weekend's race. Likewise, over the last eight races on high tire-wear tracks (which Darlington Raceway certainly classifies as), the 31-year-old is averaging 35.49 DraftKings points, which is the seventh-best average in the Cup Series. Although you should not completely dismiss his two DNFs over his last three starts in "The Palmetto State", his overall performances in the Next Gen car on tracks similar to the "Lady in Black", and the fact that he has two top-fives over his last five starts here, make the Trackhouse Racing star a driver you will want to have some exposure to this weekend in DFS.
