Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (lat) will make a minor-league rehab start with Double-A Portland on Tuesday. Bello has been out the last two weeks with right-lat tightness, but he threw a bullpen session this week and has now been cleared for live game action. If the 24-year-old looks good during his rehab start next week, he could be cleared for activation from the injured list when he's eligible on May 12 to make a start against the Washington Nationals. The Dominican starter was a popular breakout candidate coming into the 2024 season and was looking good before his lat injury, going 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA (4.04 FIP) and 1.05 WHIP with seven walks and 26 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings of work in his first five starts. Bello should remain stashed in all fantasy formats.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Brayan Bello (shoulder) is expected to make his season debut on Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners. Bello has been sidelined through the early part of the campaign due to a strained shoulder. He was able to log 14 innings of work in his rehab assignment with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. Across this stint, the right-hander held a 7.07 ERA with a 1.57 WHIP. He showed strong command of his pitches as he allowed just four walks and struck out an impressive 21 batters. Last summer, Bello logged a career-high 162 1/3 innings of work and held a 4.49 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP. He struck out 133 batters and generated a modest 4.56 xERA. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should check their waiver wire and grab Bello ahead of his season debut.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (shoulder) will make his next minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, with right-hander Lucas Giolito (hamstring) starting for the WooSox on Tuesday, according to the Boston Herald's Gabrielle Star. Manager Alex Cora said it will "most likely" be Bello's last rehab start before he's activated from the injured list. Bello is ahead of Giolito after throwing 64 pitches in four innings in his last start for Worcester. If all goes well with his outing on Wednesday, the 25-year-old should make his 2025 debut next week for the BoSox. Both Bello and Giolito will be inserted into Boston's starting rotation, which will bump left-hander Sean Newcomb out. Bello has allowed eight runs (seven earned) in his three rehab starts, but he's walked three and fanned 14 in 9 2/3 frames. In two rehab starts, Giolito has allowed an earned run with four walks and five K's.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (shoulder) went four innings on Friday in his third minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Worcester and gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits while walking none and striking out five. Bello threw 45 of his 64 pitches for strikes and averaged 95.8 mph on his sinker. It was certainly an encouraging outing for the 25-year-old, but the Red Sox want to see him get up to at least five innings in the minors before activating him from the injured list to make his 2025 big-league debut in Boston. It sounds like Bello will need one more rehab start before he makes his season debut in the big leagues, barring a setback. When he's ready, Boston will have a rotation spot waiting for him, making Bello an option for fantasy managers looking for a streamer in deep-mixed leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora described right-handers Brayan Bello (shoulder) and Lucas Giolito (hamstring) as "not close" to coming off the injured list to rejoin the team's starting rotation given their need to have a spring training-like buildup. It sounds like both pitchers will need at least a couple more minor-league rehab starts. In their first rehab starts with Triple-A Worcester this week, Bello reached 47 pitches and Giolito reached 51 pitches. Bello is scheduled to make a second start with the WooSox on Sunday, with Giolito likely to return to the mound on Monday or Tuesday. Both pitchers came down with their respective injuries in spring training, but barring a setback on their rehab assignments, they could rejoin Boston's rotation by late April. In the meantime, Richard Fitts and Sean Newcomb will hold down the fort at the back end of the rotation in Boston.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
