The Boston Red Sox acquired infielder Zack Short from the New York Mets on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations. Short finds a new home in the American League after the Mets designated him for assignment recently. Because the 28-year-old utility infielder is out of minor-league options, he'll join Boston's big-league roster for the time being as infield depth. The former 17th-round pick by the Chicago Cubs in 2016 out of Sacred Heart University has the ability to play shortstop, second base and third base. Before being DFA'd, Short appeared in 10 games for the Mets this year and went 1-for-9 at the plate with two walks and four strikeouts. He's a career .172/.266/.304 hitter in four big-league seasons and is off the fantasy radar.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Atlanta Braves acquired infielder Zack Short from the Boston Red Sox on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations. The move comes after the Braves shipped veteran infielder Luis Guillorme to the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations on the same day. The 28-year-old Short will be on his third MLB team of the year after starting the season with the New York Mets. In 12 games with the Mets and Red Sox this year, he's gone 1-for-16 with two walks and eight strikeouts. Short will operate in a utility bench role in Atlanta and may not stick around for long there, either. The former 17th-round pick by the Chicago Cubs in 2016 out of Sacred Heart has hit just .169/.262/.299 with 13 home runs, 55 RBI and eight stolen bases in 189 career games played in the majors since debuting in 2021.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Detroit Tigers utility player Zack Short will move up to the leadoff spot Tuesday night when he takes on Kansas City Royals left-hander Daniel Lynch. The Tigers are stacking right-handed bats on Tuesday with all nine of their starters swinging from the right side. Normally regarded as a glove-first player, Short has had a solid season at the plate with a .253 average, three homers, one steal, and a .723 OPS across 88 trips to the plate. He does his best work against lefties as he is hitting .333 with a .991 OPS against southpaws this season, although he still owns a modest .632 OPS in his career against lefties. However, Short's improvement at the plate this season makes him a nice streaming/DFS option, especially out of the leadoff spot on Tuesday.--Brenton Kemp

The Detroit Tigers optioned shortstop Zack Short to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday. Detroit looks set around the infield with Jeimer Candelario at third base, Javier Baez at shortstop, Jonathan Schoop at second base, and Spencer Torkelson the favorite to get the lion's share of the plate appearances at first base, but Short had a shot at making the Opening Day roster as a bench infielder. Instead, he'll head to Toledo for now. In 184 plate appearances with Detroit last season, the infielder hit .141 with a .239 on-base percentage, six home runs, and a pair of stolen bases. Short also registered a 12% walk rate.--Ben Rosener - RotoBaller
