The Las Vegas Raiders will roll out a different running back group in 2024 after several changes this offseason. Josh Jacobs, who spent his first five years with the team, left in free agency and signed a multi-year deal with the Green Bay Packers.
To replace him, the Raiders signed Alexander Mattison to a one-year deal in March. Mattison will now compete with Zamir White for the starting running back role this upcoming season. White was Las Vegas' starting back in four games without Jacobs last year.
So, will White maintain his RB1 status on the depth chart, or will Mattison swoop in and take over? Let's dive in and find out.

Who is the Las Vegas Raiders' RB1?
At this point in the offseason, it is pretty apparent that White is the favorite to be the team's RB1 in 2024. He showed a lot of promise in that role last year, and the Raiders seem to have confidence in him heading into the season. They only signed Mattison in free agency and didn't select a running back in the 2024 NFL Draft until the sixth round (Dylan Laube).
In four starts last season, White had 84 carries for 397 yards and one touchdown. In each of those games, the 24-year-old rushed for at least 65 yards, including over 100 yards twice. On the year, he totaled a career-high 451 rush yards and one touchdown.
The signing of Mattison also doesn't bring much competition for White's starting role. The former Vikings running back was cut this offseason after a poor showing in 2023. He only rushed for 700 yards while averaging 3.9 yards per carry. The 25-year-old figures to be the team's backup at the position this upcoming year.

The four-game sample size from White at the end of the season -- when Jacobs dealt with an injury -- was all the Raiders needed to see heading into 2024. The team definitely wanted to re-sign the former 2022 rushing champion in the offseason, but they were likely content with the 24-year-old as their RB1 based on his end-of-season numbers.
