11 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers third base prospect Trey Sweeney went 4-for-5 with a home run and brought in five runs on Thursday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Sweeney brought in the first run off a sacrifice fly in the opening frame. Later in the fourth, he broke the stalemate by lining a single to left field to give Oklahoma City the lead. Sweeney then put the game out of reach in the following frame with a solo shot. This was the 24-year-old's second long ball of the season, and he is now up to 16 total RBI in 23 games. The former first-round pick is sporting a .292/.434/.461 line in his first taste of Triple-A this season and is a name to monitor, as he could make a case for a late-season promotion.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 month agoDetroit Tigers shortstop Trey Sweeney made "minor" swing adjustments during the offseason. Jason Beck of MLB.com noted that the young infielder focused on timing, especially against fastballs. Sweeney expressed that he struggled against fastballs during his first look at the majors, which was a priority in the offseason. Sweeney made his big league debut with the Detroit Tigers in August and logged 36 appearances. Across this small stint, the former 20th overall pick held a .218/.269/.373 line. He hit four home runs and swiped two bags. When facing breaking pitches, Sweeney generated an impressive .552 xSLG. However, against fastballs, the infielder generated a much lower .364 xSLG. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development during spring training as he could earn the starting role over veteran Javier Baez (hip). If he does earn the job, he could be worth a late flier in deeper formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

7 months agoDetroit Tigers infielder Trey Sweeney put together an excellent performance at the plate during Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The former first-round pick has struggled early in his big league career, but had the bat going on Sunday. Sweeney took A's starter J.T. Ginn deep in the third inning for his third homer of the season. It would just continue from there as Sweeney finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a stolen base in the win. He's still not worth rostering in most fantasy formats, but maybe this is a sign of good things to come for Sweeney.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

8 months agoThe Detroit Tigers are calling up shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo, according to a source. The former first-round pick has been on a tear of late in the minors and was one of two prospects that the Tigers acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline in late July for right-hander Jack Flaherty. Per MLB Pipeline, the 24-year-old is considered the Tigers' No. 20 prospect. Since joining the Mud Hens, Sweeney has hit .381/.447/.667 with two home runs, nine RBI and four steals in 11 games. In 96 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City with the Dodgers, he hit .255/.334/.427 with 13 homers, 62 RBI and 16 stolen bases. The 6-foot-3, 212-pounder from Eastern Illinois figures to play regularly for the out-of-contention Tigers and could take starts away from the struggling Javier Baez at shortstop down the stretch.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

8 months agoLast week, the Detroit Tigers traded for shortstop prospect Trey Sweeney. Since then, Sweeney has been outstanding with Triple-A Toledo. In three games, he's gone 7-for-14 with two doubles, two home runs, and six RBI. Detroit's No. 24 prospect (per MLB.com), Sweeney is expected to make his MLB debut in 2025.--Wade Smith - RotoBaller
