12 months agoChicago White Sox pitching prospect Nick Nastrini performed well in his big-league debut versus the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Nastrini suffered the loss, but didn't look overmatched in his first outing. The right-hander went five innings and allowed three hits, two runs, two walks and five strikeouts. Nastrini should be expected to remain in the rotation with the White Sox season going nowhere and it being wise to develop young talent, but nothing is guaranteed. Moving forward, Nastrini now is nothing more than a streamer in favorable matchups, but he has the upside to help in deeper leagues, if he continues to improve. The right-hander is in line to face a tough Philadelphia Phillies lineup this weekend and should be avoided.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

11 months agoThe Chicago White Sox are planning to recall pitching prospect Nick Nastrini from Triple-A Charlotte in order to join their major-league starting rotation, according to sources. Nastrini could start as soon as Wednesday in Toronto against the Blue Jays. The 24-year-old is the team's No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He looked overmatched in his first two big-league starts last month, picking up two losses, allowing eight runs (seven earned), walking seven and striking out eight in eight total innings against the Kansas City Royals and Philadelphia Phillies. His third MLB start on Wednesday will be a better matchup against the struggling Jays offense, but the rookie hurler will still have plenty of risk as a deep-league streaming option. If Nastrini shows improvement, perhaps the White Sox will consider giving him another turn through the rotation with Michael Soroka now in the bullpen.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

11 months agoChicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Nick Nastrini threw 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball on Thursday and is on the verge of returning to the major leagues. Nastrini made his major-league debut earlier in April but logged only two starts before being sent down. Since then, the 24-year-old has been pitching very well with Triple-A and could be back up with the major-league team very soon. In May, he has a 1.42 ERA and 0.79 WHIP through 12 2/3 innings. The White Sox do not have strong options in their rotation after Garrett Crochet and Erick Fedde, which makes Nastrini a worthy stash in deeper AL-only formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

12 months agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Nick Nastrini will stick in the rotation for at least one more start. The organization has announced that Nastrini will make the start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The right-hander has earned the chance to stay in the rotation after a solid MLB debut on Monday. The 24-year-old allowed two runs over five innings of work against the Kansas City Royals. He's not a recommended fantasy option against the strong Phillies lineup.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

12 months agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher prospect Nick Nastrini will make his MLB debut on Monday against the Kansas City Royals. Nastrini pitched well in Spring Training and almost made the team straight out of camp, but was sent to the minors to give him a few appearances in Triple-A. He had a tough time there, though, allowing seven runs (six earned) in seven innings, although he did strike out 13. The 24-year-old will try and put an end to the White Sox four-game losing streak against the red-hot Royals. He doesn't need to be picked up outside of the deepest of leagues, and he shouldn't be considered as a viable streamer given the matchup.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller
