8 months agoTy Gibbs will start second in this week's Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. This will be the highest starting position of his Cup career yet at Texas and is the third time this season that the driver of the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota will start on the front row. In two previous Cup races at Texas, Gibbs' best finish was 20th, which he nabbed while driving for 23XI Racing. In the Xfinity Series, Gibbs' best finish at TMS was third, which he obtained in his last appearance there while also leading three laps. In practice, Gibbs was one of the fastest drivers, displaying top-10 speeds in almost all categories while ranking the fastest in 25 consecutive lap averages. Gibbs is one of the most consistent drivers of the year so far, with five top-10 finishes, including a fifth-place finish at Las Vegas, another track similar to TMS. Gibbs also has the second-highest average finish of all drivers this year (10.3) and led in three of the last five Cup events. Considering how fast the JGR cars are through this season so far and his practice speeds, it should not be surprising to see Gibbs be one of the top drivers of the week to compete for the win.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
