ANALYSIS: Mason Miller is poised to be the closer for the Oakland A's in 2024. The 25-year-old notched his first save of the season on Tuesday in a 4-3 win over the Rangers. The righty didn't allow a hit or a walk and struck out two batters in the inning. He mirrored that performance Thursday in a 1-0 win over the Rangers, not allowing a hit or a walk while striking out two in one IP, earning his second save of the season.
Miller allowed two earned runs on three hits, a walk, and a strikeout in one inning pitched in his first outing of the season, but since then he's made four appearances, allowing no earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out 11 over six innings of work.

The velocity on Miller's four-seamer ranks in the 97th percentile, and it's not uncommon for it to hit triple digits. It did so on eight of his pitches in Tuesday's save. The former third-round draft pick is still available in 40% of Yahoo leagues. There may not be many save opportunities for this Athletics team, then again they just beat the World Series champs two out of three in Texas, but Miller is worthy of a roster spot. If nothing else he should get managers a couple of Ks each time out.
