Chase Elliott Will Start Third at Martinsville
8 months agoHendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott will start third after qualifying for the Cook Out 400 at Martinsville. This marks Elliott's first top-3 start at Martinsville since 2022 and his second week in a row starting in that range this year. Elliott is one of the more consistent drivers in the field at Martinsville with one win and 10 top-10 finishes in 17 races there. This includes six top-10 finishes in his last eight races at Martinsville, while Elliott led in six Cup events in that span. Through seven races so far this year, Elliott has two top-10 finishes, both of which came at short tracks. The driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet also is one of only three drivers to place in the Top 20 in every race so far this season. In practice, Elliott ranked 13th of all drivers in overall lap averages but showcased that his car is better suited for longer runs as his 30 consecutive lap average ranked eighth. With Elliott's results picking up in recent races this year and Martinsville being one of his best tracks historically, look for him to be one of the top drivers of the week quietly.
