New York Giants running back Devin Singletary was a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. The veteran running back has had a productive NFL career. He totaled at least 775 rushing yards in all but one season with the Bills before joining the Houston Texans last year.
Singletary had a career-high 898 rushing yards in 2023 with the Texans despite starting the season as Dameon Pierce’s backup. The veteran won the starting role in the second half of the year, playing a significant role in Houston winning the AFC South division title.
Following his impressive season with the Texans, Singletary signed a three-year contract worth at least $16.5 million with the Giants in free agency.

Is Devin Singletary The Giants Starting Running Back?
New York signed Singletary after losing Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles. The superstar signed a massive three-year deal with the NFC East division rivals, leaving the Giants without a starting caliber running back on the roster.

Singletary played for head coach Brian Daboll from 2019 through 2021 when Daboll was the Bills’ offensive coordinator. The veteran is the team’s starter, with Gary Brightwell, Eric Gray, and Deon Jackson as the top backup running backs.
Who Could The Giants Add To The Backfield?
While Singletary is currently the No. 1 running back in New York, that could change over the next few weeks. There are a few solid veteran running backs still on the market, including Ezekiel Elliott and J.K. Dobbins. However, the team is more likely to draft a running back than sign a veteran free agent.
The Giants won’t use their first or second-round pick on a running back. Yet, they could select one in the middle rounds. New York has the 70th, 107th, and 166th overall picks in the middle rounds, making it an ideal spot to add to their backfield.
One potential target is Wisconsin’s Braelon Allen. The former Badger is one of the bigger running backs in the draft class, weighing 235 pounds at the NFL Combine. Allen joined Blake Corum as the only two Power Five running backs with double-digit touchdowns each of the past three years. He would give New York a bigger back to pair with the smaller Singletary.
