Sophomore Cup driver Ty Gibbs will start the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond from the eighth position. This starting position is the second time Gibbs will start from the Top 10 at Richmond and will be the fourth time this season Gibbs will start from the Top 10. In three Richmond starts, the driver of the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota has a best finish of ninth in last year's race. Gibbs is the most consistent driver of 2024 so far, as after six races, he is the only driver with five top-10 finishes and the best overall average finish (7.8). In practice as a part of Group A, which dealt with faster track conditions, Gibbs displayed speeds of sixth or better in all categories, including the fifth-best overall consecutive lap average. Although he only has one top-10 finish at the Cup Series level, Gibbs is a former Xfinity winner at Richmond and has top-notch equipment at JGR. Due to his overall consistency this season, it will not be a surprise to have Gibbs place in the Top 10 by the end of this week's race.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

After a disastrous start to the season, Ty Gibbs has now had four consecutive good runs and he even led the most laps at Talladega after not leading any other race this season, even though all the Toyota teams botched the strategy in the end. That has propelled him from 34th to 22nd in points over that time, and his sixth-place qualifying run at Texas matched his best of the season two weeks ago at Bristol, when he had his best finish of the year. However, Gibbs also qualified in the front two rows the previous two Texas races, yet he has never earned a top-10 finish at the track and has always finished worse than he has started, meaning he will likely have a negative value in terms of place differential. Given his recent momentum, it's possible that he will finish well enough to overcome that, but it's too big a risk when better drivers are starting worse.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

Ty Gibbs has slightly recovered from a disastrous start to the season with three consecutive good runs elevating him from 34th to 20th in the points standings. He qualified 10th ahead of all other Toyota drivers for today's Talladega race. However, that is not a good thing for DFS lineups because he qualified too well to gain many positions, so the primary value a top qualifier has is if they lead a lot of laps in the race, but even though he contended for the win in last year's second Atlanta race, he is unlikely to lead much in a race where the Fords are likely to dominate, nor is he likely to finish well given his recent history. He is one of the absolute worst choices for DFS lineups and must be avoided at all costs, even though he is available relatively cheaply at $7,000.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing obtained a finish of third in Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. It is the first top-5 of 2025 for the driver of the No. 54 Toyota after struggling throughout the year so far. Beginning the race from the sixth position, Gibbs lost ground early and fell outside of the top 10 as several cars passed him. Gibbs spent the rest of the stage moving up through the field and made it to ninth by the ned of the first stage, scoring two stage points. The second stage was quiet for Gibbs as he ran inside the top 10 for the entire time in the stage. He gained more positions during the stage, finishing it in seventh place while gaining even more stage points. In the final stage, Gibbs raced up to the top five, competing against Alex Bowman and Carson Hocevar before falling back to fifth. The No. 54 Toyota team then pitted earlier than some other drivers and used fresh tires to get up to third while competing for second against Denny Hamlin. Ultimately, Gibbs settled for third by the end of the race, collecting a new career-best Cup Series finish at Bristol in the process.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

Ty Gibbs has arguably been 2025's biggest disappointment because normally young drivers on top teams are supposed to rapidly progress while Gibbs has been significantly slower in 2025 since losing his old crew chief Chris Gayle to Denny Hamlin's No. 11. However, Gibbs is starting to turn it around as his Martinsville run was solid when considering his cool suit was failing and he was spun out by Tyler Reddick and Gibbs finally earned his first top ten in 14 starts at Darlington, and he followed up by qualifying 6th at Darlington yesterday, his best start of the season. Since Gibbs had arguably the two best race of his career with a combined 239 laps led in the 2023 Bristol Night Race and last year's March race, Gibbs is one of the best DFS options if you think he'll lead a lot of laps. However, the fact that Hamlin won his first short track race with Gayle while Gibbs markedly fell off suggests that Gibbs will need more time to jell with his new crew chief Tyler Allen before he fights for a win again.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
