Martin Truex Jr. Could Work As A Tournament Play At Bristol
9 months agoJoe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. obtained a starting position of 11th for the Food City 500 on Sunday. In 33 starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, Truex has four top-10 finishes, while he only nabbed one top-10 finish in the past 10 Cup events at the site. Truex ranked 23rd in five, ten, and overall lap averages in practice for Bristol this week, showcasing that he does not have one of the faster cars through pre-race events. In the first four races this year, however, Truex does not have a finish outside of the Top 15, has four finishes with neutral or positive place differential, and two top-10 finishes in the last two weeks. Considering how well he quietly ran all season regardless of track type, Truex is a driver that makes for a potentially sneaky contrarian DFS play even if his Bristol history says otherwise. Fantasy players should not rely on him as a contender for the win, as indicated by practice speeds, but is a driver that because of his season-wide performance, works well for lineups as a tournament play.
