Marquise Brown Signs With Chiefs: Fantasy Football Impact

Marquise Brown - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Veteran wide receiver Marquise Brown signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday. Brown hopes to follow JuJu Smith-Schuster’s footprints by playing on a one-year deal with the Chiefs and earning a multi-year big-money contract the following offseason.

The former Oklahoma star spent the first three years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, totaling 195 receptions on 317 targets for 2,361 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns in 46 games. Brown got traded to the Arizona Cardinals during the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent the past two seasons in Arizona, totaling 118 receptions on 208 targets for 1,283 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 26 contests.

What’s the fantasy football impact of Brown signing with the Chiefs? Let’s dive into it for his former and current team.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2024:

Fantasy Impact For The Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City released Marquez Valdes-Scantling earlier this offseason. While the veteran never had meaningful fantasy value, his role on the team was critical. Brown should step in as the No. 1 outside receiver for Patrick Mahomes, giving the superstar the reliable downfield playmaker he has lacked since losing Tyreek Hill.

The arrival of the veteran wide receiver might be enough to make Mahomes the QB1 in fantasy football again in 2024. Meanwhile, Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice will have more meaningful competition for targets than last season. Yet, their fantasy value only takes a minimal hit with the addition of the speedy wide receiver.

Fantasy Impact For The Arizona Cardinals

While the Cardinals don’t have a No. 1 caliber wide receiver on the roster, many expect the team to draft Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Ohio State star is arguably the best wide receiver prospect since Calvin Johnson in 2007.

However, the big winner from Brown’s departure is Trey McBride. The young tight end had a surprising season in 2023, ending the year as the TE9, averaging 8.3 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Furthermore, he put up elite numbers for a tight end with Brown and recently traded Rondale Moore off the field.

The former Colorado State star belongs in the conversation with Sam LaPorta and Kelce as the first tight end off the board in 2024 redraft leagues. McBride will have target competition from Harrison and Michael Wilson. Yet, he is prime for a third-year breakout.
