The new NFL league year is officially underway. We’ve already seen a flurry of moves with star players on the move seemingly by the minute.
Unfortunately for Mike Williams, he met a different fate. As part of a salary-cap-saving move, Williams was released by the Los Angeles Chargers after seven seasons. He is now searching for a new team.

Is Mike Williams a Free Agent?
After being cut by the Chargers, Williams now officially enters NFL free agency. It will be interesting to see how much interest Williams draws in the open market. He is coming off a torn ACL and will be turning 30 years old this season. For a player who has struggled with injuries in the past, we may have already seen the best Williams has to offer.
If age and injuries haven’t slowed him down though, Williams brings true X-receiver traits to any team he chooses. He’s proven he can succeed in this role and provide value for fantasy football players whenever he is on the field.

Which Teams Would be the Best Fit for Mike Williams?
New York Jets: With Allen Lazard underwhelming last year, the Jets need a complement to Garrett Wilson. We’ve seen four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers support two fantasy-relevant receivers in the past. He can help Williams maintain the value he held in Los Angeles.
Buffalo Bills: The Bills have an opening in their receiving room after Gabe Davis signed a three-year, $39 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Buffalo has long been searching for a quality WR2 to play alongside Stefon Diggs. Williams' contested catch ability would give Josh Allen another legitimate red zone threat. With Allen as his quarterback, Williams could once again score double-digit touchdowns and approach WR2 production.
Kansas City Chiefs: This would be most ideal landing spot for Williams. Despite winning their third Super Bowl in five years, the receiving room plagued the Super Bowl champs at times during the season. Williams would immediately step in as the team’s WR2 behind Rashee Rice.
The target competition would be stiff playing alongside Rice and Travis Kelce. However, it’s hard to say Williams’ fantasy value takes a hit if Patrick Mahomes is his quarterback.
