St. Louis Cardinals utility player Tommy Edman (wrist) is doubtful for Opening Day, according to president of baseball operations John Mozeliak. Mozeliak said Edman's recovery is not "tracking" on that timetable while it's unclear how much additional time he will need. The 28-year-old was shut down this spring due to pain in his surgically repaired right wrist but recently resumed baseball activities. Edman hit .248 with 13 home runs, 27 stolen bases, and a .706 OPS across 137 games last season, his fifth in the big leagues. He was expected to open the season as the Cardinals' primary center fielder but now it appears that job would likely belong to Dylan Carlson. Edman is eligible at second base, shortstop, and the outfield, giving his power/speed combination additional value, especially at the keystone.--Brenton Kemp

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman (ankle) is heading to the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 30, after suffering an ankle injury on Tuesday earlier this week. It was reported that he "tweaked" his ankle during Tuesday's game, and it didn't seem too serious, but he will now be out for several games in the short term with right ankle inflammation. The 29-year-old was slashing .252/.295/.523 with eight home runs, 24 RBI, 19 runs scored, and two steals over 30 games before the injury, so there is a good amount of production and versatility that the Dodgers will be missing. The good news is that they have offseason acquisition Hyeseong Kim coming up from Triple-A to replace him. Kim had tallied a .252-5-19-22-13 stat line over 28 games, and had made starts at second base, shortstop, and center field, so he can also provide versatility.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman (ankle) remains absent from the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the hosting Atlanta Braves. Edman sat out of Wednesday's series finale against the Miami Marlins after tweaking his ankle on Tuesday and won't be back on Friday despite having a scheduled off day on Thursday. The 29-year-old's injury isn't considered very serious, though, and manager Dave Roberts said he expected Edman to return in one of the first two games of this weekend's series. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Saturday to see if he's active. Veteran Miguel Rojas will start at second base again and will hit ninth on Friday against Braves right-hander Grant Holmes. DFS gamers should look elsewhere, as Rojas has very little fantasy upside at the bottom of the lineup. He's gone 12-for-44 (.273) this year with no homers, two RBI and two runs scored as a backup infielder.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman (ankle), who did not start in Wednesday's series finale win over the visiting Miami Marlins, said he tweaked his right ankle on Tuesday night and still felt some discomfort on Wednesday. The Dodgers have a scheduled day off on Thursday before beginning a series in Atlanta against the Braves on Friday, so fantasy managers will want to check back then to see if Edman is feeling good enough to play. The 29-year-old should be considered day-to-day until further notice. The veteran switch-hitter isn't tearing the cover off the baseball through the first month of the 2025 season -- he's hitting .252 (28-for-111) -- but he's managed to be productive for his fantasy managers with 24 RBI, 19 runs scored, two stolen bases and eight home runs in 30 games played. UPDATE: Manager Dave Roberts expects Edman back in the lineup in one of the first two games in the series against Atlanta.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Tommy Edman and catcher Will Smith are both taking a seat for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Miami Marlins. The hot-hitting Andy Pages is starting in center field and batting fifth, while Austin Barnes is doing the catching and hitting in the nine-hole against Marlins right-hander Cal Quantrill. Enrique Hernandez is at second and is hitting seventh. Pages is among the hottest hitters in baseball right now, as he comes into Wednesday's contest riding a seven-game hitting streak in which he's gone 17-for-29 with three doubles, four home runs, eight RBI, three steals and nine runs scored. Edman has been on the bench for two of the last three games and has gone 3-for-19 in his last six games. It's just a regular rest day for Smith, who is hitting a strong .316 (24-for-76) in the early going with three homers and 17 RBI for the Blue.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
