Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott put together the best season of his career in 2023. Prescott threw for 4,516 yards, 36 passing touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also totaled career highs in several categories, including completions (410), completion percentage (69.5), and passer rating (105.9).
Prescott really played at a high level for most of the season and finished second in MVP voting this past year. However, the Cowboys quarterback is in the final year of his four-year, $160 million contract.
Should the Cowboys extend Prescott? What could a deal look like? Let's dive in and find out.

Should the Dallas Cowboys Extend Dak Prescott This Offseason?
Prescott might get a lot of hate from the media because he plays for the Cowboys, but he showed in 2023 that he is one of the top quarterbacks in the league. It would be a big loss for Dallas if they were to lose the reigning MVP runner-up in free agency next year. As a result, the Cowboys should do everything in their power to extend Prescott.
It might not be easy, as the two sides took a while to get a deal done the first time around. Nevertheless, it's something that has to happen if the team wants to continue to compete in the coming years. His cap hit, which is $59.5 million in 2024, would also significantly decrease if the two sides agreed on an extension this offseason.

The Cowboys will likely need to extend Prescott before the 2024 season begins to avoid him hitting free agency. The 30-year-old quarterback is also not eligible for the franchise tag due to a clause in his contract, so Dallas will need to extend him to keep him.
What Kind of Contract Could Dak Prescott Receive This Offseason?
It remains to be seen what the Cowboys plan to do with Prescott. He is a top quarterback in the league but also hasn't carried Dallas past the Divisional Round. The team could also allow Trey Lance -- who they acquired last season -- to start if he is ready.
The biggest thing holding Dallas back from extending Prescott is the money. According to Spotrac, the veteran's market value is $50.8 million annually and that might not even be enough to keep the Pro Bowl signal-caller.
Cowboys and Dak Prescott haven’t had any talks at all about a new contract extension according to @SlaterNFL and a deal may not materialize until August…
I’m not trying to live in a world where this deal isn’t done until training camp 😂…#DallasCowboys

On top of paying Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are both due for big contracts. Giving record-breaking deals to all three players might not be possible. However, Dallas should prioritize extending its quarterback before anything else.
