Anthony DeSclafani Throws Bullpen Monday
1 year agoMinnesota Twins right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) threw a bullpen session at camp on Monday as he continues to ramp up after the Twins shut him down at the starting of spring training due to right-elbow soreness. Minnesota is justified in wanting to slow the 33-year-old down in camp after DeSclafani missed time in 2023 due to a flexor strain in his right arm. However, the Twins are still hopeful that he can fill up a spot at the back of the starting rotation to begin the 2024 regular season. Fantasy managers shouldn't really be interested in DeSclafani after he went 4-8 with a 4.88 ERA (4.35 FIP) and 1.25 WHIP with 20 walks and only 79 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings over 19 outings (18 starts) for the Giants last year. He already didn't miss many bats to begin with, and now he's an injury concern.

Anthony DeSclafani Goes On 60-Day Injured List
1 year agoThe Minnesota Twins placed right-handers Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) and Josh Winder (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list on Thursday. The Twins also put right-handers Jhoan Duran (oblique), Josh Staumont (calf), Justin Topa (knee) and Zack Weiss (shoulder) and left-hander Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) on the 15-day IL to open the year. DeSclafani is dealing with a right-elbow strain and won't be an option for the back end of Minnesota's starting rotation for at least the first two months of the 2024 season. The 33-year-old was acquired in an offseason trade from the Seattle Mariners in January. He went 4-8 with a 4.88 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 20 walks and 79 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings for the San Francisco Giants in 2023. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues can leave him to the waiver wire.

Anthony DeSclafani To Begin Season On Injured List
1 year agoMinnesota Twins right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (elbow/forearm) will begin the season on the injured list. He will visit Dr. Keith Meister to evaluate the next steps on his ailing right elbow. The right-hander was shut down by the team early in the spring but has recently thrown bullpen sessions. He has yet to appear in a Cactus League game to this point, however. The veteran was acquired in a trade with the Seattle Mariners this offseason after tossing a 4.88 ERA across 19 outings (18 starts) with the Giants in the 2023 season. He was involved in a deal for Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray before being dealt to Minnesota in a trade that saw Jorge Polanco head to the Mariners.

Anthony DeSclafani Delayed In Camp
1 year agoMinnesota Twins pitchers Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) and Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) have been delayed in camp but are ramping up their throwing. Trainer Nick Paparesta said that both pitchers still have time to be ready for Opening Day. DeSclafani is dealing with right-elbow soreness, while Thielbar is dealing with a left-hamstring strain. DeSclafani, 33, was acquired in an offseason trade with the Mariners. It's a troubling sign he's hurt again after missing most of last year due to a flexor issue in his arm. In his 19 outings (18 starts) for the Giants in 2023, DeSclafani went 4-8 with a 4.88 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 79 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings. His injury in camp could make Louie Varland the favorite for Minnesota's final rotation spot to open the year.

Josh Staumont, Anthony DeSclafani Full-Go In Spring Training
1 year agoNew Minnesota Twins pitchers Josh Staumont (shoulder) and Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) have both been throwing for months after ending last year on the injured list and are full-go entering spring training. Staumont had thoracic outlet syndrome surgery last July but should be good to go for Opening Day with his new club. The 30-year-old could struggle to be effective after the surgery, though, especially since he hasn't very good to begin with the last two years for the Kansas City Royals (6.09 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 57 2/3 innings). DeSclafani made just 18 starts with the San Francisco Giants in 2023 due to a right flexor strain. The 33-year-old went 4-8 with a 4.88 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 79 K's in 99 2/3 innings last year. DeSclafani will be competing for the fifth spot in Minnesota's starting rotation in camp.
