Hunter Greene Working On A Curveball
10 months agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene is working on a new curveball in camp this year. Last year, Greene used his fastball 54.4% of the time, his slider 40.3% and his changeup only 5.3%. His fastball averaged 98.3 mph in 2023, the slider was 87.3 mph, and the changeup was 91.1 mph. The new curve is in the low-80s. "It's exciting," Greene said. "(I'll) continue to refine it and work on it, but looking forward to being able to have a good offering this season." The 24-year-old has also thrown a split-fingered fastball, but it's unclear how much he'll use those pitches in 2024. The hard-throwing Greene's fastball could be even more devastating with a slow curve to keep hitters honest. He has plenty of fantasy upside, but he hasn't thrown more than 125 2/3 innings in his first two years in the big leagues.
