Super Bowl LVIII is here, with the San Francisco 49ers facing the Kansas City Chiefs in a matchup of juggernauts of their respective conferences.
This year’s game is a rematch from four years ago, with Patrick Mahomes getting his first Super Bowl victory. However, Brock Purdy was in college at Iowa State the last time these two teams faced off in the Super Bowl. Instead, Jimmy Garoppolo was under center for San Francisco.
With Super Bowl LVIII less than a week away, let’s look at who will be victorious and be the game’s MVP award winner.

Playoff Recap
The 49ers are the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs and earned a first-round bye. They came out flat against the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round. Thankfully, San Francisco got the 24-21 victory after a go-ahead rushing touchdown by Christian McCaffrey and a late interception by Jordan Love.
San Francisco faced the Detroit Lions during the NFC Championship Game, coming away with a 34-31 victory. They needed a second-half comeback to secure the win. While Purdy played well, McCaffrey’s two rushing touchdowns were the difference in the game.
Mahomes and the Chiefs easily defeated the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the playoffs, 26-7. The following week’s matchup against the Buffalo Bills was a more competitive contest. Yet, Kansas City came away with the 27-24 victory.
Despite being significant underdogs to the Baltimore Ravens, the Chiefs always felt like the better team. They got the 17-10 win over the AFC’s No. 1 seed, as both defenses played lights out in the second half, surrendering three total points.
Who Will Win Super Bowl LVIII?
While the Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions, they are 2-2.5 point underdogs against the 49ers. This game will be the third consecutive one that Kansas City is an underdog. Yet, I’m not betting against Mahomes and picking the Chiefs to win.
Meanwhile, the 49ers barely defeated the No. 7 Packers. They also needed a collapse by the Lions in the NFC Championship Game to make the Super Bowl.
MVP Predictions
There have been 58 Super Bowl MVP award winners. Quarterbacks have won the award 32 times, including 12 of the past 17 games. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Mahomes and Purdy are the favorites to win the award.
However, McCaffrey at +450 is an appealing option. He is the 49ers’ top player and the heart and soul of the offense. The superstar has had two rushing touchdowns in both playoff games. If San Francisco is going to come away with the victory, they will need a massive performance from McCaffrey.
