Ryan Blaney Uses Fast Restarts to Finish 3rd in Busch Light Clash
10 months agoRyan Blaney's No. 22 Ford was not fast to start out the night at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Saturday. Blaney was the 26th-fastest car in qualifying for NASCAR's preseason exhibition race, which was a problem because only the 22 fastest cars made it in the Busch Light Clash Race. Luckily for Blaney, the highest-finishing driver in the points that wasn't locked into the event after qualifying got in via a provisional. Despite starting 23rd, Blaney maneuvered his way through the field over the course of the night, coming home with a third-place finish when it was all said and done. One big reason he was able to do this was his speed on restarts, which was the fastest in the field. After the race, the defending Series Champion reflected, "we were lucky that we got in the race and then we did a good job all night. We just kind of stayed clean, and our car was fast, too, to just kind of drive up through the field. A couple of restarts went our way to where our lanes went."
