The New Orleans Saints were just good enough to have a winning record and just bad enough not to qualify for the NFL playoffs.
New Orleans’ offense was borderline average all season long thanks to spotty play from quarterback Derek Carr, the worst year of tailback Alvin Kamara’s career, and former Pro Bowl receiver Michael Thomas no longer being the 1,000-yard threat he once was after countless injuries and surgeries.
New Orleans fared better on defense, finishing 8th in points allowed and 13th in total defense, although major breakdowns in crucial games helped cost them a playoff berth. So which pick do the Saints possess in the upcoming NFL Draft? Here is their deal:

Which Pick Do the Saints Have in the 2024 NFL Draft?
New Orleans has the 14th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. They are in no-man’s land since they finished with a 9-8 record. This is akin to finishing one spot out of the money in your fantasy football, baseball, hockey or hoops league. You do not get the benefit of a playoff spot or a high draft choice.
Who Could the Saints Draft in the First Round?
The Saints have spent first-round picks on big bodies for both sides of the line in two of the past three years, and they might have to search for more line help this year. The Saints were 29th in sacks on the defensive side, while an inconsistent offensive line did not open many gaping holes for Kamara, which led to the team being ranked in the bottom half of rushing offense in 2023.
If the Saints decide to go after a skilled-position player, finding the perfect foil for Chris Olave to be the No. 2 WR would be a way to go. Thomas is a shell of his former self, while home run hitter Rashid Shaheed is better served as a No. 3 WR and a kick returner than a pass catcher who is aimed at 10 times per game. New Orleans is decent at tight end, so adding another solid wideout to keep Olave from being double-covered would be ideal.
New Orleans could also shock the fantasy world and their fan base and move on from Kamara, which would open up the opportunity to pick a running back in the first round like the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions did in last year’s draft.
New Orleans will be one of the favorites to be atop the NFC South when the 2024 NFL season rolls around. Let’s hope they get better bang for their buck out of their first-round selection than they have in recent years.
