Jared Spurgeon To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
1 year agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon is set to undergo season-ending hip and back surgery. The Wild captain has been sidelined since Jan. 2 and with the Wild sitting at 18-20-5 and seventh in the Central Division, the season-ending decision has been made. Spurgeon's campaign ends after appearing in just 16 games with five assists, 21 shots, 12 hits, 29 blocks, and a plus-five rating under his belt. With Spurgeon lost for the season, the Wild will be able to exceed the salary cap by roughly $7.575 million once Spurgeon's salary is put on long-term injured reserve. Rookie Brock Faber has seen the biggest increase in opportunity in Spurgeon's absence and is the go-to Minnesota defenseman to roster in fantasy hockey.

Jared Spurgeon Back For Wild Thursday
2 months agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower body) will re-enter the lineup on Thursday against the Utah Hockey Club. He has been out for nine games due to a lower-body injury. The Wild captain will work with Declan Chisholm on the second defensive pairing. He is also expected to join the first power-play unit. Travis Dermott will make way in the lineup. Spurgeon's return is big news for Minnesota, but it will not have a significant impact in fantasy hockey. The veteran rearguard has been limited to 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 32 appearances this season.

Jared Spurgeon Placed On Injured Reserve
3 months agoAccording to the team, Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower body) was placed on the injured reserve on Monday evening. The 35-year-old defenseman was initially expected to miss at least two weeks of time so moving to the injured reserve does not effect that timetable. In a corresponding move, the Wild promoted Carson Lambos from the AHL. However, over the recent games, Travis Dermott has entered the starting lineup and should be expected to remain there until Spurgeon returns. Overall, Spurgeon tallied 13 points (four goals, nine helpers) with three of them coming on the power-play, across 32 games. He also logged 52 total blocks. When he returns he should reclaim his role as a top-4 defenseman and should continue to see ample power-play time.

Jared Spurgeon To Miss 2-3 Weeks
3 months agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower body) is expected to be out for 2-3 weeks. Spurgeon suffered an apparent right leg injury on Tuesday versus Nashville and wasn't in the lineup for Thursday's matchup against Washington. Based on the projected timeline, it looks like the Wild captain will miss at least six more games. Travis Dermott replaced Spurgeon in the lineup on Thursday but logged only 10:32 of ice time. Zach Bogosian filled in for him on the second defensive pairing and notched an assist. However, his offensive game is limited, and fantasy managers should not expect Bogosian to become a regular offensive contributor.

Jared Spurgeon Out On Thursday
3 months agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower body) will not play against Washington on Thursday. He was injured in Tuesday's tilt against Nashville and might be out for a while, as it was reported that Spurgeon used crutches and wore a leg brace after getting hurt. Travis Dermott is projected to replace Spurgeon in the lineup on Thursday, with Zach Bogosian moving to his place on the second defensive pairing. Neither player has significant fantasy value and should be ignored by managers.
