Gleyber Torres, Yankees Avoid Arbitration
11 months agoInfielder Gleyber Torres and the New York Yankees agreed to a one-year, $14.2 million deal for 2024 on Thursday to avoid salary arbitration. A career-low 14.6 percent strikeout rate helped Torres to a fine offensive season in 2023. He finished with a .273/.347/.453 slash line, an .800 OPS, 25 home runs, 28 doubles, two triples, 13 stolen bases and 90 runs scored in 672 plate appearances over a career-high 158 games played. The two-time All-Star has settled in as New York's everyday second baseman and should hit high in the batting order again in 2024, giving him plenty of fantasy appeal for a Yankees lineup that should be stronger next season. Torres has produced 24 home runs in four of his five full major-league seasons, giving fantasy managers a solid floor.
