One and Done Selections - The Sony Open
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

As we open the 2024 One and Done contest, the temptation is to get fancy as anything seems possible for the year ahead. I’m not gonna swerve to far offline, however, as Brian Harman is the golfer that makes the most sense to me at the Sony Open.
We’re limited in where we can deploy the short-hitting defending Champion Golfer of the Year throughout the season, so the tight confines of Waialae Country Club are a nice spot to spend our “Harman Bucks” without too much regret at a later date.
In addition to the no-brainer course fit, Harman comes into this year’s edition of the Sony in excellent form. After a surprising, but commanding win at the Open last year, the vet has continued to play well, notching a T8 at the Hero Challenge and a T5 in last week’s Sentry while gaining over five strokes on Approach at Kapalua.

Spencer Aguiar - Brian Harman
Alternate - Matthew Fitzpatrick
I will keep things relatively simple here to start the season at the Sony Open. I assume most gamers will land somewhere in that range of Corey Conners, J.T. Poston, Russell Henley and Brian Harman. That may present a contrarian route if you want to consider an outlier choice like Matthew Fitzpatrick or Ludvig Aberg up top. Still, my model couldn't ignore the second-ranked win equity return I got on Harman this week.
Harman's third-place grade for weighted scoring generated the upside that I wanted to see, and the additional top-five mark for weighted strokes gained total provided a significant return that equaled or surpassed those priced next to him on the board.
We can get funky with the picks later in the season.

We get to sweat our first OAD of the season at the Sony Open and I am going to be rolling a guy who is the definition of blood, sweat and tears. Who am I kidding, it's mostly sweat and tears. Who am I kidding, it's mostly sweat. Ladies and gentlemen, Lucas Glover!!!!
I have typed this in just about every article I have so far, but the fact that Glover lead a field of Schefflers, Hovlands and Morikawas in SG App last week at the Sentry, coupled with the fact that when he finished T5 here in 2022 he gained 9.5 strokes on approach. In my mind I see two waves of recent form and course history approaching (pun intended) to collide into a blissful, blue-collar behemoth of ball striking brilliance.
Glover’s reliable, thousand-thread ropey draw he has on autopilot should allow him to fire away at these pins all week, giving that broomstick of his ample opportunity to find its form on the greens he has enjoyed neutral putting performances on in the past. A neutral putting performance for Glover is like Brendon Todd averaging 300 yards off the tee … it hardly happens, if ever. Forgive me if you have heard this before, but in my mind I see two waves of recent form and course history colliding into a blissful, blue-collar pristine putting that could see the Glove get Lei’d on prime time Sunday Night TV.
