Rangers Searching For Catcher Depth For 2024
11 months agoThe Texas Rangers will enter spring training with only one of their three main catchers from 2023, with that being starter Jonah Heim. General manager Chris Young said, "We need to keep him healthy and manage his workload." The 28-year-old All-Star slashed .258/.317/.438 with 18 home runs and 95 RBI in 131 games, 124 of which he played catcher. Young did mention 25-year-old Sam Huff as a potential backup. He had a successful 2023 season with Triple-A Round Rock. He said, "I think there's more experience to be gained in terms of just his overall catching. That said, he may get that in the big leagues, maybe in Triple-A again." Fantasy managers in deeper leagues should keep an eye out for further developments, as the eventual backup catcher in such a strong lineup could be worth roster consideration.
