BALLER MOVE: Start in 12+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: TE1
ANALYSIS: New York Giants tight end Darren Waller is one of the top weapons in the NFL. Unfortunately, injuries have limited his fantasy upside over the past few seasons. He is the TE24 for the year, averaging 7.3 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Waller recently missed five games because of a hamstring injury.
The Giants have made a change at quarterback, benching Tommy Devito for Tyrod Taylor. While the move likely has little impact on them winning or losing in Week 17, the quarterback change is massive for Waller. The star tight end had his best and fourth-best fantasy performances this season with Taylor under center.
More importantly, he faces a Los Angeles Rams defense that has struggled to slow down opposing tight ends this year. They have surrendered 11.5 fantasy points per game to tight ends, the fourth-most in the NFL. Los Angeles has given up 12.6 or more fantasy points to tight ends in four of their past five games.
Fantasy players should consider Waller a solid low-end TE1. While he doesn’t have the upside or floor like Travis Kelce or Sam LaPorta, the veteran could be a league winner in Week 17.
