Tommy Nance Signs Minors Deal With Padres
12 months agoThe San Diego Padres have signed right-handed pitcher Tommy Nance to a minor-league deal that includes an invite to big-league spring training. The 32-year-old didn't appear in the big leagues in the 2023 season due to a shoulder injury and last appeared with the Marlins in the 2022 season, working to a 4.33 ERA across 35 outings (2 starts) spanning 43 2/3 innings of work. His only other season in the big leagues came in 2021 as a member of the Cubs when he posted a poor 7.22 ERA across 27 relief appearances and 28 2/3 innings on the mound. He's been able to generate strikeouts at a healthy 26.9% clip as a big leaguer but also sports a subpar 10.5% BB%, although his career 3.48 SIERA suggests he could be a nice find for the Padres on a low-risk deal.
