The New York Mets signed free-agent outfielder Trayce Thompson to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training on Wednesday, according to a source. Thompson comes to the Mets after a rough 2023 season in which he hit .163/.285/.294 with six home runs, two doubles, 17 RBI and 17 runs scored in 72 games played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. The 32-year-old has hit just .212 in his seven-year big-league career and hasn't played in more than 80 games in a single season. Thompson will come to spring training in 2024 with the Mets hoping to win a fourth outfield role behind the likes of Starling Marte, Brandon Nimmo and DJ Stewart. He'll be competing with Cooper Hummel and Alex Ramirez.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson (oblique) started a minor-league rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Friday night and went 2-for-5 while playing all nine innings in center field. Thompson will play in several more rehab games before being eligible to return from the injured list in early August. The 32-year-old veteran hasn't appeared in the big leagues since June 3 and was hitting just .155/.310/.366 with five home runs, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored in 36 games before his injury, so fantasy managers in mixed leagues can continue to ignore him when he returns. At best, Thompson will be an option against left-handed pitchers when he's in LA's lineup in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson (oblique) will miss more than a month of action due to the oblique strain he suffered on June 3, according to manager Dave Roberts. He should return before the season ends, though he hasn't offered much fantasy value over 36 games. Before going on the shelf, Thompson was hitting a lowly .151 with five homers, 12 runs, and 14 RBI. James Outman will likely continue to get most of the reps in center. After starting the season hot, the 26-year-old has struggled lately and is now slashing .230/.319/.454 with nine homers, seven steals, 29 runs, and 30 RBI.--Spencer Seguin

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson is off to a blazing start in 2023. He is slashing .375/.375/.1.500 with three home runs, eight RBI, and three runs scored over eight plate appearances in 2023. Most of his damage came from last Saturday's win over the Diamondbacks. He followed up Saturday's monster performance by going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Sunday's loss. When in the lineup, the 32-year-old is the Dodgers starting right fielder and hits in the middle of the order. Thompson was a popular waiver wire add over the weekend due to Saturday's big game and can be used as a streamer this week as the Dodgers have six games with hitter-friendly matchups against the Diamondbacks and Rockies.--Brad Camara - RotoBaller

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson (personal) has been scratched from the starting lineup on Thursday against the division-rival San Diego Padres due to a personal issue. Manager Dave Roberts said Thompson will be away from the team for a day, so he could return on Friday. With Thompson out, Miguel Vargas will get the start in left field and will bat seventh in the lineup against Padres right-handed opener Steven Wilson. Vargas will be a low-upside DFS play on Thursday night. The 22-year-old Cuban rookie will be playing in just his 13th major-league game. In his 39 at-bats so far, he has just seven hits (a homer) and five RBI.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
