1 year agoFree-agent right-hander Seth Lugo agreed with the Kansas City Royals on a three-year deal worth $45 million on Tuesday. The third year of Lugo's deal with Kansas City will be a $15 million player option. The 34-year-old veteran cashed in on what will likely be the final big free-agent deal of his career after excelling in a full-time starting role with the San Diego Padres in 2023. Last year, Lugo went 8-7 with the Friars with a 3.57 ERA (3.83 FIP) and 1.20 WHIP with 36 walks and a career-high 140 strikeouts in 146 1/3 innings over his 26 starts. He'll be guaranteed a full-time starting role again in 2024 with the rebuilding Royals and will now reside in one of the best divisions in baseball for pitchers in the weak American League Central.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
