1 year agoCarolina Hurricanes winger Andrei Svechnikov (upper body) was a late scratch on Thursday. Svechnikov took warmups but did not end up playing in the game, with Brendan Lemieux entering the lineup. The 23-year-old has been ravaged by injuries and illnesses this season, playing only 16 of the team's 26 games so far while missing time due to a knee injury, an illness, and now this upper-body injury. Hopefully he can get healthy, as he can be a very effective player when all systems are a go. His next chance to suit up will be Saturday against Vancouver.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller

3 days agoCarolina Hurricanes right wing Andrei Svechnikov (upper body) will remain sidelined on Tuesday evening when the Hurricanes host the Nashville Predators. Svechnikov has missed the previous six contests due to this injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Friday evening against the Montreal Canadiens. Before his injury, Svechnikov was riding a five-game scoreless streak. However, before this minor skid, the 24-year-old tallied nine points (three goals) over his last eight contests. Through 63 games this season, Svechnikov has scored 18 goals and added 25 helpers, with 17 of his points coming on the power play. While he remains out, Taylor Hall should continue to see time on the second offensive line.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 week agoCarolina Hurricanes winger Andrei Svechnikov (upper body) will likely remain sidelined for Thursday's matchup against the San Jose Sharks. Svechnikov returned to practice on Monday, raising hopes that he would be ready to rejoin the action against the Sharks; however, the Russian forward is considered doubtful for Thursday's game. Tyson Jost is set to keep his spot in the lineup, while Jackson Blake is expected to continue skating in a first-line role. The rookie winger broke a five-game dry spell with an assist last time out against the Philadelphia Flyers. Overall, Blake has recorded 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in 67 games during his rookie season, but he has only added to his tally three times since the start of February.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoCarolina Hurricanes winger Andrei Svechnikov (upper body) returned to the ice on Monday and could be ready to rejoin the action in Thursday's matchup against the San Jose Sharks. The Russian forward has been unavailable for three games due to an upper-body injury. "We'll find out," Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour said when asked if Svechnikov could play Thursday. "We've got a couple more days. We'll see where he's at." Before exiting the lineup, Svechnikov went five consecutive games without recording any points. However, a haul of 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) in 63 games places him among Carolina's top scorers this season. He leads the team with nine power-play goals.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoCarolina Hurricanes winger Andrei Svechnikov (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup on Friday against the Detroit Red Wings and is also expected to miss Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers. He withdrew from the lineup earlier this week due to an undisclosed injury. According to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site, head coach Rod Brind'Amour hopes Svechnikov can return to action next week. In Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tyson Jost rejoined the lineup as Svechnikov's replacement. However, he offers no fantasy value as a fourth-line piece. Jackson Blake has probably received the biggest boost from a fantasy perspective, joining the first line. The 21-year-old will look to end a four-game pointless streak on Friday. Blake has recorded 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in 65 games for the season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
