Aaron Rodgers Injury Update
The New York Jets officially opened the 21-day practice window for quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), who remains on Injured Reserve after tearing his Achilles in the season opener. The Jets now have 21 days to officially activate Rodgers from IR. The 39-year-old has made an incredible recovery from his Achilles tear, but he's still not ready to play while rehabbing full-time at the team's facilities.
Rodgers still hopes to play this year, but he needs to be healthy and the Jets need to be in the playoff race, so the fact that the team opened his practice window doesn't necessarily mean Rodgers will play again in 2023. Still, it's a step in the right direction.
Tua Tagovailoa Injury Update
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (arm laceration) practiced fully on Wednesday ahead of his team's Week 13 matchup against the Washington Commanders. The quarterback suffered a cut on his right arm during his team's Week 12 win over the New York Jets but was able to play through the laceration with a bandage on his arm.
Tagovailoa's ability to practice fully on Wednesday indicates that he is not in danger of missing his team's Week 13 game against a vulnerable Washington pass defense.
C.J. Stroud Injury Update
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud (thigh) practiced fully on Wednesday. The 22-year-old has taken a beating over the last few weeks, which likely contributed to his thigh issue. But his participation in Wednesday's session is an excellent sign regarding his availability for Week 13 versus the Denver Broncos. Stroud is well on his way to winning this year's Rookie of the Year award, tossing for 3,266 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five picks.
He's also found the end zone three times as a runner. Nonetheless, assuming Stroud doesn't suffer a setback in the next few days, fantasy managers can start the signal-caller with confidence versus a weak Broncos defense.
Will Levis Injury Update
Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis (ankle) was limited in the team's practice on Wednesday. Levis appeared to pick up an ankle injury in the Titans' 17-10 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 12, which caused him to practice in a limited fashion to begin the week. However, the practice designation on Wednesday is a good sign for the rookie's availability on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
Levis has struggled over the past four weeks, totaling just two touchdowns and two interceptions during that span. But with six teams on bye in Week 13, he could be leaned upon in two-quarterback leagues or Superflex formats this weekend.
Baker Mayfield Injury Update
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) should be a full-go on Sunday in Week 13 against the Carolina Panthers. The 28-year-old injured his ankle early in the Week 12 loss to the Indianapolis Colts but returned after missing a couple of snaps and finished out the game.
There's full optimism that he will start for the Bucs this weekend. Mayfield could have limited mobility outside of the pocket, though, where he'll continue to serve as a QB2 in fantasy.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson Injury Update
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol and will not practice on Wednesday. Thompson-Robinson suffered a concussion on a hard hit in the third quarter of the Week 12 loss against the Denver Broncos and was removed from the game in favor of P.J. Walker, who proceeded to fumble twice (one lost). Deshaun Watson (shoulder) is out for the year.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski said that veteran Joe Flacco, who was signed last week, is now the backup to Thompson-Robinson. If the rookie doesn't get cleared from the concussion protocol this week, it appears that Flacco will make his first start of 2023 on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
Hendon Hooker Injury Update
The Detroit Lions opened the 21-day practice window for rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker (knee) on Wednesday, meaning the team now has 21 days to officially activate him from the Non-Football Injury list. Hooker continues to recover from a torn left ACL. The Lions opened the season believing that 2023 would basically be a medical redshirt year for the 25-year-old signal-caller from Tennessee.
Hooker can begin to practice with the team this week, but it's still probably unlikely that he's actually activated to the active 53-man roster to close out the regular season. Jared Goff will remain Detroit's starter under center as long as he's healthy, and he's being backed up by veteran Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Martinez.
