Detroit Lions rookie quarterback Hendon Hooker has not seen the field this season, as the 2023 third-round pick has been on the NFI list. The 25-year-old was the Heisman Trophy favorite last year before suffering a major injury late in the college football season, and he has been recovering to this point.
Although Jared Goff is the clear starter in Detroit, dynasty fantasy managers are likely wondering if Hooker will join the active roster this season. We have his latest update.
When will Hooker be activated to the Lions' roster? What is his fantasy football outlook? Let's dive in.

Hendon Hooker Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Detroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker (knee) could begin practicing this week. Head coach Dan Campbell said the Lions could activate Hooker from the NFI (Non-football injury and non-football illness) list early this week, meaning he'd be eligible to take the field.
Hooker has been recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in late November of the 2022 college football season. It remains to be seen how involved the reigning SEC Player of the Year will be, but this is a step forward in his potential path to playing time in the future.
Hendon Hooker Fantasy Football Outlook
Hooker is unlikely to see the field in 2023. Goff has had a few rough performances in recent weeks, but the Lions are sitting at 8-3, and the veteran quarterback has been solid overall during his tenure in Detroit.
The Lions also have Teddy Bridgewater on the roster, so there's no guarantee Hooker will even be elevated to the No. 2 role. Head coach Dan Campbell hinted at Hooker taking a "redshirt" season during his rookie year, so he might be capped at being the team's emergency third quarterback in 2023.
However, he'll get a chance to show what he can do in practice, with eyes on taking over the backup role in 2024. Since he was a third-round pick, he's not guaranteed to ever earn the starting role, but deep-league dynasty managers should continue to stash him -- especially in two-QB and superflex leagues.
