Matt Chapman Declines Qualifying Offer
1 year agoFree-agent third baseman Matt Chapman declined the $20.325 million qualifying offer from the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. The 30-year-old was one of seven players who received an offer this offseason, with none of them accepting. Chapman cooled off considerably after a red-hot start offensively in 2023 and finished with a .240/.330/.424 slash line, 17 home runs, 54 RBI, and 66 runs scored in 140 games played. He also continued his career of excellent defense, earning his fourth Gold Glove award. While only three other third basemen have posted higher WAR than Chapman since his first full season in 2018, his high strikeout rates and low batting averages cap his fantasy value somewhat.
