Carson Wentz Week 10 Waiver Wire Outlook
The Los Angeles Rams made a surprise signing this week, adding veteran quarterback Carson Wentz in free agency. Wentz last played for the Commanders last season, playing in eight games for the team.
Wentz went 2-5 as a starter for the Commanders, completing 62.3% of his passes for 1,755 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Commanders were his third team in three seasons. Now, he joins the Rams, his fourth team in four years.
The day before signing Wentz, the team waived quarterback Brett Rypien, clearing the way for Wentz to be the primary backup for Matthew Stafford.
Should I Pickup Carson Wentz in Week 10?
While Carson Wentz is a big-name player who has played some really good football at times in his career, his best days are long behind him. In 2017, Wentz threw for 33 touchdowns and had an 11-2 record as the Eagles starter. Injuries have really impacted his upside.
With the Rams signing Wentz to be a backup to Matthew Stafford, he does not have standalone value and should not be added off the waiver wire in any one-QB fantasy leagues.
The one place there could be value is in superflex formats, as Matthew Stafford comes with injury concerns. He played just nine games last year and missed last week's loss to the Packers, with Rypien getting the start. Wentz has QB2 appeal if Stafford misses more time, so he can be added in leagues where fantasy managers start two quarterbacks if you have a need at the position.
