Today's NHL Betting Picks - Ottawa Senators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

O/U: 7 | Moneyline: TOR (-175)

It's a rivalry matchup tonight in Toronto as the Maple Leafs play host to the reeling Ottawa Senators.

While the Sens limp their way into this one with plenty of negative noise around the team, these games are never easy for the favorites. Ottawa beat Toronto 6-2 in their last visit to Scotiabank Arena and have either won or kept the game within one in four of the last five matchups.

Goal-scoring has not been an issue for the Sens as they enter this one ranked fifth with 3.80 goals per game on the season. They have given up 3.50 goals per game themselves but they are also taking on a Maple Leafs team that checks in at 26th in terms of high-danger chances against per 60 minutes of five-on-five action, as per Natural Stat Trick.

At the same time, the Sens themselves check in at 31st in terms of expected goals against/60 at 5v5 and 30th in high-danger chances against/60 at 5v5. Their defense has certainly scuffled while Thomas Chabot remains out with a hand injury. His absence has thinned out a Senators back end that was the No. 1 concern entering the season.

The Maple Leafs stormed back to claim a 6-5 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night and will give tonight's start between the pipes to Joseph Woll who earned the win in relief while increasing his season-long numbers to a 2.30 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage across seven appearances.

Neither Joonas Korpisalo nor Anton Forsberg has been any good in net for Ottawa this season. Toronto has been lethal at the offensive end of the ice more often than not and the Senators have shown an inability to defend their own territory.

Add it up and the home side should be able to walk away with a win in regulation time.

Pick: Maple Leafs 60 min. moneyline (-110, DraftKings sportsbook)

Today's NHL Betting Picks - Los Angeles Kings vs. Vegas Golden Knights

O/U: 6 | Moneyline: VGK (-130)

The Vegas Golden Knights finally suffered their first regulation loss of the season their last time out against the Anaheim Ducks and they return home for a difficult matchup on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Kings.

This Kings team is for real. They are deep down the middle with plenty of depth up front while the back end is a solid mix of experience and youth. Goaltending questions may linger toward the latter half of the season but the 7-2-2 Kings seem to be a real player in the Western Conference.

Their offense has been the second-best group in the league so far as their 4.27 goals per game on the season are only behind the Vancouver Canucks. They have also defended fairly well with their 2.82 goals against per game sitting in a four-way tie for sixth league-wide.

Of course, Vegas has been no slouch on either side of the puck. Their 3.77 goals per game rank sixth in the league while their 2.15 goals against per game sit third. Their special teams have also been on point as their 23.4% clip on the power play sits 11th while their 87.2% mark on the penalty kill is tied for sixth.

The Kings are wrapping up a four-game road trip in this one. It's easy to expect them to be a little dragged and no one would blame them after winning each of the first three contests of this trip. However, they are taking aim at a division opponent who sits ahead of them in the standings.

Expect Todd McLellan's club to come out hard in this one and finish the road trip with authority at nice value.

Pick: Kings moneyline (+110, DraftKings sportsbook)
