T.J. Hockenson Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson had a strong showing in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons. He was targeted 12 times, catching seven passes for 69 yards. This marks the second time in the past three games that Hockenson has been targeted 12 times. Sandwiched in between was a game with nine targets. Overall, there's been just one game all year when he was targeted eight or more times. The point is, the Vikings like to get the football in his hands.
However, some concern emerged after the game on Sunday against Atlanta, as head coach Kevin O'Connell said that Hockenson suffered an oblique/rib issue.
Considering he played through whatever this issue was and was still very productive this past Sunday, it's safe to say that fantasy managers should proceed as if Hockenson will suit up against the Saints.
T.J. Hockenson Fantasy Football Outlook
T.J. Hockenson should be viewed as a high-end TE1 play this week against New Orleans unless we hear indications that his injury is something serious. As of now, it sounds like he should be good to go.
His ceiling this week depends on some other injury factors. Justin Jefferson is eligible to return from the IR after dealing with a hamstring injury, though it's not yet clear if Jefferson will suit up. K.J. Osborn left Week 9 with a concussion and seems unlikely to play at this point.
If both are out, Hockenson's ceiling is sky-high and he could be in play to be the overall TE1 this week. If Jefferson is back, there's a little more uncertainty, but Hockenson should still get his usual eight-plus targets.
